all the pots measure from 260 ohms to 300 ohms, but of course i have turned the VR402 pot and it can be set to anything in the 260 to 300 ohm range

Alright, You are going to have to swap the FR and FL preamp wire like we discussed previously. We could be poking away here for how long. We need to narrow stuff down. So swap those wires and see if the distortion stays the same or changes to the LF.

Well at least now we know for sure it is in the amp section. Normally I don't suggest shot gunning a part but I would like you to try replacing C424. If you don't have another one on hand just use the one from the LF channel for the test. You can leave the LF open for the test or just put in the one from the FR. Then if it doesn't help you do not have to switch them back, just leave them as they are.

It does not matter right now. You can just leave for now if you want or switch back.

Which parts had the broken traces that you repaired?

Well next I think you should do a continuity test from each leg of both those devices to each and every component they are suppose to connect to. If there was a spot where a trace was broken and you missed that went to a cap or any component then it could cause a problem. Just look at the schematic and follow each leg to the next connect point and test for continuity. And if the is more then 1 component that is a first point connect then check them all.
I am out for a couple hours so I will check in later.

okay mac, here is where i am at with this receiver. I located a broken trace on R83. I repaired the trace and put it back together and the right channel seemed worse than before. now there seems to be only distortion, crackling and static from the right channel. before you could actually hear music and voices even though you could not make out what the voices were saying because of the distortion. then i remembered the vr402, so i switched it off, unplugged the speaker cable and HDMI cable, I switched it on and placed 1 meter probe on the outer pin and touched the other outer pin and i was getting 3.0mv on the meter. i turned the pot and attempted to check vr402 again and i heard a spark and looked down the the receiver was off. now when i press the button it will come on for about 5 seconds and shut off. did i blow the output transistors?

Probably. This unit seems to be beating you up.
What is unfortunate is I use to live a couple miles from you. You could of just brought it over.
