Thanks! Yep, what a bunch of you probably don't realize is that while I love HTs, and I've seen a bunch of great ones, I've done aLmost nothing with mine over the years. Not sure what stopped me, other than working on other stuff around me, but this is the most I've done since I originally hung the first projector.

I own two colorimeters, very old ones, and have never learned how to use them. If Craig ever ends up in the Seattle area, I'll bribe him to come up across the border to tweak mine. I can do focusing and converging, but have actually skipped most of the geekly tech threads posted here and on avs over the years. Some of you talk in the stratosphere when it comes to tweaking, but given the amounts of projectors I've seen, I know what they can do, and mine isn't close to being done from an image POV.

Still, come Friday night, Barb and I will lug the spare loveseat downstairs and will watch a movie!

It seems to me like it's because of what you do. Kinda like the mechanic has the crappiest car, Accountants have money trouble, chef comes home and orders take out. After working on others stuff all day you don't want to do any more.

Glad you are breaking the mold and taking the time.

Gotta agree on the AT screen. If you are going to do it in the future, then you should have went ahead and bought some inexpensive AT material. I think Phifer is around $200 for your screen size.

Seymour's new Center Stage UF material is only $14/foot for an 84-inch roll width. So, for 11 feet of material, you're only talking about $154. Grommets would probably be another $50 or so, so about $200 all-in. Not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to go buy shade material when for the same price you can get a supported product from an industry guy.

Just sayin'.

So I spent about 45 minutes aligning the projector to a) make sure it worked, and b) to see what potential I have here.

I`ve got some focus issues, seems the right side isn`t as good as anywhere else. I know the 909 can do better, but after 8 hours of software programming training, I wasn`t up to snuff. Still, I see lots of potential here. May need to rotate the projector very slightly to the left, as I see the slight wear pattern of the green tube on the far left of the image, but only if I`m looking for it.

Overall I`m happy, but I`ll still do some playing, and I need to change out the Denon in the rack and put in an HDMI switching Onkyo.

gotta find another decent green tube for the second 909, it should go up this weekend.

Is the linearity abit off or is the right side meant to be fatter than the left?

Guys

H linearity is the hardest working correction in side-stacking as one must expand the near side and compress the far side to balance things at the screen.

Oh probably, I didn't get a ruler out nor a tape measure while doing geometry. Right now I want to make sure the set is stable (am about to fire it up while I replace the Denon receiver) before I go to the trouble of massive convergence. the 909 has extreme geometry and convergence settings, so getting the stack nailed won't be an issue!

Any thoughts as to whether to go BGR on one projector regarding tube order?

Yes they are extreme, but the steps are still too large Wink

You see exactly my point here between the Barco and the NEC fine adjustment sizes? I wonder if there would be a way to mod it so the steps could be finer in size at the expense of the totally unrequired amount of range you get!!

When I look at the convergence board I see an input opamp that has a 1k resistor in its feedback. Seems to me that replacing it to something bigger would make the amplification smaller so you probable need 90 at the corners but the steps would be smaller.

Id have to look at what ive got set in the corners, its only about 10-15ish away from 49 at the most in any zone, coarse or fine from memory. I never really look at the numbers!!

If we could make the steps smaller, even just slightly, say 25-50% smaller, there is every chance convergence would become MUCH better!!

I don't see an issue on the screen from 10' back, so for now I'm leaving it, but definitely, reducing the output amp gain would solve that issue, no question.

Fired the set up from a cold start last night, it's pretty damn stable. Didn't have it on long enough to check to see if the little drifting comes back in line, but it's well under a test pattern line thickness, so I can live with that.

I'm involved in a computer programming course all week long, may post in the audio section about it. Very specialized, very commercial audio oriented, and should make me a key player in the commercial audio industry locally within a couple of years.. I hope! Now it's all about marketing!
