This could be why your fans spun faster earlier in the piece? Mine almost never do!!

Curt, what could be the downside to running this P1 voltage higher??

Tjeerd, are you at 18v on the 31.5kHz pattern? Thats about where i wound it up to.

Yes!

Every now and than I had that during startup I would get either a scanfail that had the red led on the hdm saying that there was not enough smps power or It would start and the temp sensor was reporting error vallues. Than the max would become very noisy and the fans would spin at max speed. i hope these problems had to do with the same setting. I realy don't see another explnation becaUse the whole smps seems fine and I replaced all caps that could have gone bad and even a regulator, no bad solder points etc.

Yes.

I have to check if the pfc voltage has gone up. I suspect the pfc has the 17,3 V too as a reference. Perhaps the 380 goes up now. I did notice little sparks coming from my quadrupler focus wire that is in a wood piece. I had to change its position to stop the little ticking sparks. So be carefull. Might have to find a point close as close to 7,3 as possible?

Mine is well covered, its not the quad arcing. Ive had that twice, different squeal sound and different on screen issues Wink

There seems to be nothing in the EHT or the PFC that is regulated by this 17,3V but the PFC does regulate itself in some complicated manner. I measured 325V now while it used to be 370V and the specs say 380V. The 17,3V is on 18V now.

Hope Curt knows if there is a danger in this situation. Don't think so because Eltopo would have been around more Very Happy

TV/Projector: All of them!

Posted: Thu Sep 18, 2014 11:58 pm    Post subject:

Ignore the voltage charts in the Barco menus, they are a bit meaningless, other than to tell you that one is way off, in which case you usually don't get a picture. Smile

I've seen the 17 volt test point vary +/- a volt or so, it seems to drift more than other older Barco sets.
The onscreen voltages are probably +/- 20% or so, which is why I ignore them. THey can't be individually adjusted anyway, the only adjustment you have is the 17 volt trimpot for all of them.

I don't think too high a voltage can cause an issue, as long as the voltages of the electrolytics isn't exceeded, which I don't think you can do.

All I'm interested is the streaking changes as the voltages change.

Yes watched a very long movie 'transformers 4' and no streaking at all during the whole 2,5 hours Smile Also the Max became very quiet in time. The lowest voltage seems to resonate a bit more in my case.

Have to add that the internal moome had much more visible streaking than the external vga and that is I think because of the different contrast settings. A few days ago I watched 'the signal' and the streaking was very bad in that movie. Now there is nothing.

One other thing the streaking got less when I exchanged the 300/380VM cap with two very low esr 450V/105c 47u caps. That already made the streaking appear in less scenes. But one movie that I keep for test (never watched it so bad) still very clearly showed streaking during the opening scenes where a camera in the desert is directed to the very hot sun and you see the sky. Than I raised that voltage to 18V or close and it was totaly gone. Have not seen it in any movie since so I call it solved but you never know Confused

As I don't know any testpictures to bring out the streaking I recommend 'Swelter 2014' the opening scene is the worst I found.

When you look at the schematics Barco says the voltage from the mains should be 300V but the PFC produces 380V. A friend told me that if the schematics are not what is really there than Barco must have changed it later because of problems. I have the idea that raising the voltage gives the same power with less current. So bad caps will be less bad that way, internal resistance will cause less heating etc.

How many hours on your Cine 9's ?

Mine has about 1600 hours with new LUG's and i cannot see streaking at all.

You think it's related to the boards ?
