No I haven't, other than one local guy also built his own line array, and I'm selling commercial ones into arenas. No way I can get these, but if I did, and if the tweeters were too 'beamy' as they tend to be/should be in a line array, I'd simply disconnect some.

Have YOU heard those Philips tweeters? Friggin' amazing!

I don't have the cash or money to transport them, let alone a place to put the damn things, but properly set up, I'll bet they sound great!

Line source arrays are friggin' awesome. I heard a set of line arrays at a home theater meet last year that sounded really good. They were custom-built by a builder, based on the AV123 LS9 design. It was my first time hearing a quality pair of line arrays in a home environment. It totally assaulting to the senses having your brain telling you that those little drivers won't be able to make bass, but then hearing it, and hearing real, powerful, deep bass thumping you in the chest. The dynamics were really impressive, and so was the sound in the room.

Then, I went to the Wisdom Audio demo at CEDIA last year and had my mind blown. Huge room, probably 50+ people on what were basically small bleachers. Huge AT screen lit up by a big DPI or something. All the amplification was Lab.gruppen. The sound was huge - massive, even - super-realistic, super-dynamic, infinitely crystal clear, and not a hint of any kind of strain or distortion. It was by far, one of the best audio/video demos I've ever seen. Man, if I won the lottery…

I have no idea what happened with the BC Place install, but I can tell you their stuff is very well-regarded - even by an amplifier design engineer I was talking to this spring (who's also well-regarded in the industry). I was talking to him about it when I was in Chicago for AXPONA and Cliffy's meet, in fact!

Interesting. the issue at BC Place with their top of the line amps were that so many went down prior to the Olympic opening ceremony, that they were pulling out their 1980s Yamaha amps to keep the system running. Also, their computer networking system is supposed to default to a backup network if there's a glitch. If they went down, the amps would mute out, and the techs would have to run up to the catwalks to reboot the amps.

When I was there 2 years ago, they were installing analog audio inputs to each amp since the digital network input was so unreliable.

My personal beef also is that their '20Kw' amps are nowhere near 5000 watts RMS per channel (X4), everything is rated in peak watts...
