I can change it to 1080P, but if I forget to put it back in automatic it gives me fits next time I fire it up.

Why ? is what I don't understand. If the Oppo is seeing a 1080P source why is it outputting 1080 I in automatic ? Shouldn't automatic output the highest resolution ?

What Oppo do you have, Jeff? I've never had any issues with mine. I'm guessing it has to do with what the display is telling the Oppo is best for it (HDMI EDID). In your case, that's probably either the Moome card or the Lumagen telling the Oppo to output 1080i. This is probably a question best for Craig since he set your system up and knows how everything is cabled.

How is your system set up? Oppo > Lumagen > Moome?

Why not just set it to 1080p and leave it, anyway?

Oppo,Lumagen, Moome. yes. If I set it at 1080P and leave it, it doesn't always "lock on" to an image. I get a green screen or no image at all, even if the only thing I am playing is 1080P BD.

OK, then… Since you have a Lumagen, 1080i from the Oppo is fine. The Lumagen will do inverse telecine on it and it should be no different than if the Oppo was outputting 1080p. Why not just leave it on auto and let it do its thing? Craig may have set up the Lumagen to tell the Oppo to output 1080i.

I don't know Lumagen enough to know what you can/can't do with it, or what best practices are, but I'm sure Craig does. How did he have it set up when he left? Is this a new thing?

I am not sure if its a new thing or not. I noticed a message pop up last month when I turned on the lumagen last, that showed it was outputting 1080I. I changed it to 1080P, waited 20 minutes and touched up my zone. Picture was beautiful. The next day I noticed the picture seemed off and sure enough it was outputting 1080I again.(after I put it back in automatic). I know its just a small hassle, nothing to get worked up about, it just bugs me.

Wait, the Lumagen is *outputting* 1080i? That's a different story… That shouldn't have anything to do with the Oppo I wouldn't think.

Did Craig give you a sequence to power up the system? I'd think you'd want to apply power to projector, then Lumagen, then the Oppo. That way, when the Lumagen fires up, there's a sink there, and when the Oppo fires up, there's a switcher and sink.

I'd PM Craig and let him know what's going on and ask for advice.

That worked ! I had the lumagen connected to the master power switch (hoping it could provide some protection from power surges.) I set it to be always on or at least in standby mode. Now it doesn't seem to matter how I power up it is outputting 1080P. It does fire up smoother, without all the static and off color if I fire it up PJ, Lumagen, Oppo. So that will become my new routine. THANKS Steve !
