If you fly in to Washington Dulles, either I or someone else will drive over and pick you up from your flight in, and take you back for your flight out.

We'll see my BIG DOG BROTHER. I've got some hurdles ahead of me though. Re-capturing my family is going to take some serious time and effort. Big time. This is my main concentration at this point.

I will however most certainly come out if funds and time permit. Promise. Smile

I'm guessing you are 4 hours from Pgh or so. I am 50/50 right now for either date, but will let you know ASAP. Gotta' talk to the wife and see what my kids' soccer schedules look like once they are posted this week.

The last two plus months or so I haven't been here. The fact that I could catch-up on the CRT forum with only ~50 threads or so in that time span was equal parts sad and nice. Of course, another one of my summers came and went with no crt fun or progress to show for it. This is doubly bad b/c by now I've forgotten what crap is what and which project was in which state!

Dang Matt. I was just up in Pittsburgh this last weekend, with my entire immediate family, celebrating my 61st birthday. Got to see the 62 - 0 demolition of the University of Delaware on Saturday, and the one run loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. Had a great weekend in the 'burg. Also got to experience the Church Brewing Company restaurant and beer for the first time. Had a blast there.

Haven't conversed with you in over a year. Wish I would have made contact with you before the trip, and we could have gotten together.

Yo Big Dog;

That is great news that you have a real chance to reunite the family. I will pray for you.

Family comes first. If you can't come because of that, I will completely understand.

On the other hand, the standing invitation to bring Amy along still stands. A nice relaxing weekend in gorgeous Northern Virginia in the Fall may do wonders for you and Amy.

Dear Stridsvognen;

I will set the Meet date this weekend. That way, you will know what to do.

Do your Moome HDMI input cards have the latest MP 1080P output filters, or no output filters at all?

I have a card with MP filters and a card with no filter, and also have the Sony V3 card with and without filter and adapter to go in the Marquee.

Do you by any chance have a test Marquee to play with.?

Well, probably. There is a fellow who lives about 20 miles from me who is in the process of moving. His stuff is all in storage, until his new house is done, in October. He has a fully functional Electrohome Marquee 8500 Ultra and a parts 8000 that he wants to get rid of. He is willing to give them to me, if I cart them away. I will take both, junk the 8000, and use the 8500 Ultra as a test projector. I just don't know if I will have the test projector by the time you arrive (because, as you know, no house has ever in human history been late completing).

On the other hand, one of the really nice features of a blend is you can install something in one projector, and immediately see the difference it makes with respect to the other projector. So, in one way or the other, I will have a "test" projector available.

If you dont mind to play with the blend thats great, i just had the idea that a blend setup was best left alone when adjusted and working.

If it is of any interest i have some parts, boards/ processor i can bring, and try demonstrate the difference in picture quality depending on how the croma signal is passed, and how the grayscale / gamma behave with the blue gamma correction bypassed on the VIM.

I was thinking to buy a OPPO 103 to bring along for test purpose to.

Now this is only if you, and others have any interest to play with this, and you dont feel its to much trouble.

Not only is it no trouble, but you could not be more welcome to do so. Bring whatever you would like. You are welcome to come some number of days early, and play to your heart's content. (I expect there will several people doing this.) I would love to see the effects of some of the changes you are looking at. I have always treated the blending of 2 CRT projectors as mostly a research project, with the added feature of being able to pop in a movie or watch a sporting event and enjoy the hell out of it. Smile

If you are going to do all of that, then you might as well go to Buffalo and visit Nash along with Chicago and Craig.

The Dodge Challenger R/T and Chevy Camaro SS seems to be the only options in Washington.

Sorry about the delay in fixing the Meet date. I've been trying to work with Don Wallace, to see if he would be able to make it to the Meet. Unfortunately, his calendar is so busy, it would not matter what date I set the Meet for. He would not be able to make it. On the other hand, he is willing to still cook for the Meet. So, we'll still be able to enjoy Don Wallace pulled pork BBQ, and Don Wallace beef brisket BBQ, along with his famous BBQ sauces, and perhaps some side dishes.

Given Don's availability, as well as the desires of those who have chimed in to the Meet announcements on Curt Palme's forum, AVSForum, and the Seaton Sound forum, I am firmly setting the Fourth East Coast Blendzilla Meet date as Saturday, October 18. Anyone flying in can make plane reservations. The Meet date will not change.

As an added extra bonus, I have had an Analog Way STE-100 blend unit on loan from Analog Way for the last 2 weeks. It has taken a number of tech support discussions over a full week to get the STE-100 up and operational. The main problem was HDCP. (I ended up disabling detection of HDCP in the STE-100, and using the Moome HDCP stripper on the output of the STE-100.) I have been using the loaner STE-100 as my blend hardware for the last week. The advantages of the STE-100 (with respect to my old Analog Way Diventix 8022) are 1) it is 1/3 as high, and 2) it automatically displays an ATSC source at 16 x 9, and displays a Blu-ray movie at the native aspect ratio. The disadvantages of the STE-100 are 1) it's cooling fan is at least as loud as the cooling fan on the 8022, and 2) it's button lights are brighter than those on the 8022. (The latter problem is easily solved via black cloth.) The quality of the image seems to be about the same with either blend unit. This is not surprising, since they use the same scaling and blending algorithms, according to the tech support guy I have been working with.

During the course of the discussions with the one Analog Way tech support guy I have been working with, I have described my rather unique Home Theater application of the Analog Way blend hardware. (Most users of Analog Way blend hardware use the hardware to blend multiple digital projectors at either conference venues or churches.) Of course, I am blending 2 CRT projectors in a Home Theater setting. Also of course, I have bemoaned the fact that the optimum output resolutions for blending CRT projectors (1440 by 1080 at 60 Hz with a 4/3 AR for ATSC sources, and 1167 by 800 at 72 Hz with a 4/3 AR for Blu-ray movies, assuming a 2.4:1 aspect ratio screen) are not choices on the list of available output resolutions for either the Diventix 8022 or the STE-100. The closest available output resolution (and the one I have been using for the last 7 years) is 1400 by 1050 at 72 Hz with a 4/3 aspect ratio. This output resolution looks really good, but using it results in unnecessary scaling in both the horizontal and vertical directions for all sources.

My bitching must have had some effect. Analog Way has offered to create a custom output resolution for blending a pair of CRT projectors. They are going to try to have the new custom output resolution available for the October Meet. I am still thinking about what custom output resolution to ask for. The goal is to minimize unnecessary scaling. My first question to answer is: do I want to optimize for ATSC sources or movies. If I want to optimize for ATSC sources, it seems to me that the custom output resolution should be 1440 by 1080 at 60 Hz, with a 4/3 aspect ratio. If I want to optimize for movies, and I pick the movie and screen aspect ratio of 2.4:1, then the custom aspect ratio should be 1167 by 800 at 72 Hz at a 4/3 aspect ratio. If I only get one custom output resolution, perhaps I should ask for 1440 by 1080 at 72 Hz with a 4/3 aspect ratio, to get the maximum vertical resolution, and just live with the unnecessary scaling on movies. Does anybody have any input on what I should ask for a custom output resolution for the Analog Way blend hardware?

Dr. Little Dog

I should be able to make it. I still haven't heard from one of my clients what they are doing that week, but barring any other issues (you hear that Mercedes) I should be in.

I will edit the very first post, to include a list of who is attending. I will keep the list updated. Right now, the list includes:

Mr. RoCo
Mr. Stridsvognen
Mr. Spanky Ham
Mr. Mark Seaton
Mr. Loganvu
Dr. Little Dog

There have been twice as many expressions of interest, but no other commitments.

Dr. Little Dog
