I did see that the bulbs on hogs unit are pricey. After all the years digitals have been around, you'd think bulbs would come down in price.
I'll look into some of the mentioned models and start working on my business case to my wife. |
Yes, the replacement cost for Xenon bulbs have always been higher than UHP bulbs.
With at least 500 hours left on the current bulb, and another 2000 hrs on the new bulb, you have 2500 hrs of life to work with. That would be 3.4 hours of use every day for the next 2 years. Depending on your usage, you could still take a year to get your CRT back in use and still have at least half of the total bulb life left for use as a backup. Or as ecrabb said, at this price you could probably just flip it when you're done and get most of your money back.
There's also a JVC-RS20 and a Sony VPL-VW95ES both listed for $2K in the AVS classifieds that are worth looking at as well. Keep in mind, at that price differential you could buy a 3rd bulb for the VW200 and get another 2000 hrs of use out of it

Oh, and looking at your ad on AVS... Any shipping to Canada? lol Don't want to get too excited if you aren't willing. From my understanding all you do is fill out a customs slip and I pay duty on my end.

Yep, no problem shipping to you in Canada. You are correct, I'll put the declared value on the paperwork and you'll pay the customs fees when you pick it up.

$2k for an RS20 is crazy money. I paid $2200 for my B-stock RS45 from AVS over two years ago. It is extremely low hours, and it does include a mount, but still… That projector is five years old. I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for an RS20 even with the mount and low usage. The VW95ES is a steal comparatively speaking, which is why it's sold already and there's no interest in the RS20.
But, yeah - for what you're asking, the VW200 should be a great machine for the money.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay $2k for a RS20. I am not sure I would pay $1k. Weren't the RS45s going for $1700 last year? It sucks that JVC took down their ebay store. I used to check them once a week to see if they had any good deals.

I went for Hogs unit. I read and read and read some more and I'm sure it's going to be great. Can't wait for it to arrive next week. I'll update when it arrives.
I looked it up on projector central and WOW, I had no idea the good projectors are like baby CRT's! It's huge! and still hefty at 45 lbs. I'm feeling even better as my favorite place to sit is right under the marquee.

This is definitely the biggest/heaviest digital I've owned. When it was announced in 2007 it was Sony's flagship projector and quasi-successor to the Ruby and Qualia 004, and Sony built it like a tank. Of course it was a $15K MSRP projector, so you got what you paid for - solid build quality, excellent optics, Xenon light source, and very good panel alignment. If you don't care about 3D or 4K, at this price it's got a lot of performance per dollar.

Well, it left Winnipeg this morning so hopefully it won't be long. Estimated delivery is tomorrow and that sounds about right. No hang up in customs either thankfully!
Still haven't set up the speakers and such... doh.

You're on the home stretch man...just hold out a little longer. Glad it's scheduled to arrive before the weekend so you have a couple uninterrupted days to watch some long overdue movies
