Remote - If you don't have one, then ebay is where it is (google the TV model to see if you can find the original user manual, Sony usually gives the model # of the remote in the "Included in the box" area of the manual)

The remote is used for all the service menu settings, and the service menu is nothing like a CRT projector. It is VERY easy to forget something, or make a mistake.. If you DO go into the service menu, WRITE DOWN EVERY SETTING as it is BEFORE you start to make adjustments. This way you have a reference point in case you make a mistake, and need to revert to the previous setting.

Service Manual.... best bet is to google for it. If you can't find one that's okay, because its really not needed if you know what you are doing (How many here use the Service Manual for their CRT PJ? Razz Laughing )

There is a LOT of info over at AVS in the TV section, the Sony Service codes, etc... good idea to check that out as well Wink

Enjoy the TV, I also picked up a similar 57" Sony from a thrift store, cost me $50, spent $80 for a few parts to repair it, and the TV was back in fully converged working operation in no time, threw a good pic too! (Not as good as my Pioneer Elite RPTV though, nothing else in the RPTV world can compete Very Happy )

So far I have found the service manual for it(second tv I have had and got a service manual for)

I had one for my old Ecp 4101 but rarely used it(figures ha ha) I also found one for my marquee but have yet to use it ha ha

Now I need to download the owners manual for it so I can find the remote model(also can find online)

I have found some spare tubes for it(under. 300 for a set) going to get those really soon as I like to have spares for my stuff like this

I will write down everything in the service menu as I have read that these sony sets are really picky about that(some won't show a pic or fire up the hv if the wrong setting is messed with in the service menu)

I cleaned the lens and it throws a great and sharp pic for its age(just got to clean the rest of the chassis of all the dust)

I found a sony remote(not the same as what came with the set) but at least it works for now till I can get one

Now its making me want a g70 or g90 projector ha ha(the majority of my gear is sony)

Most RPTV CRT sets won't need tube replacements, the HD ones are more true to that than anything, since HD has become mainstream on flat panels and died off on RPTVs.

I wouldn't really worry about keeping a spare set of tubes for it, I doubt you will ever need them, likely you will replace the set long before they die.

All in all, I love Sony RPTV sets, they seem pretty good, and are usually pretty reliable. I think you'll enjoy it for a long time to come Smile

True but I did get a Samsung crt rptv that was HD and the tubes were toast(luckily it was gave to me)but I used the cooling chambers and chassis for a project so it didn't get scrapped(I turned it into a rear projection crt monitor basically)

I know I may replace it before the tubes die but given on how hard it is now to find a set like this I may still get a set as I will be keeping it as long as I can as I may never find another in such great shape

This will be my second sony set that is HD. (The other one was native 4:3 but handled HD formats)loved the picture quality from it both in 4:3 and 16:9 but hated the letterbox setup for the 16:9 though(the only con I had with the set)

The last company to make a rear pro HDTV was Mitsubishi and it was the laser view dlp sets(have yet to see one in person)

One thing I have always like about these sets(aside from the picture quality) is the audio from the bulit in speakers(can't find speakers that are 2way setup on a flat panel)

I remembered when HD first came out and crt was still being sold for many years here now its almost impossible to find one in good working shape(hence why I grabbed this one up when I seen it)

I was very cautious bringing it home as I didn't want to damage it in transit(its possible)

I have found a remote on eBay for 20 bucks so I will get one soon for it(want to try out the picture in picture feature)

I seen a pioneer once in a circuit city once and I couldn't believe my eyes I forget which one it was but it did have a really nice pic(it must have been a 65 inch as it was big)

Yeah and the Pioneer probably cost in excess of $7500+ as my little 53" Pioneer was a $5000 set in 2001. I always wanted a nice RPTV when I was younger, and now I have one of the best ever made. As awesome as RPTV CRT TVs are, I don't plan on picking anymore up because they are simply too huge to have around. I would rather have 4 NEC XGs stacked than 1 big ass RPTV assembly Razz

That said, I will never get rid of my Pioneer, I love it, and it completes my vintage Pioneer Elite Home theater system that I've been putting together.

Since you like sony, Im sure you're somewhat the same way Razz

This makes me wish I had gotten that Mitsu 83" 4:3 RPTV from the bar up the street. They were suppose to call me but they chucked it instead Sad

Good point me either one good set is plenty

I currently have two crt projectors and the sony tv and it makes the projectors look small

I have always liked sony gear(had a sony watchman that I would use almost everywhere till the digital change over)

Heck my dwin looks tiny compared to the tv(my marquee on the other hand he he)

I have been enjoying the tv and have tweaked it enough to get a really great picture from it(pretty close to my marquee and dwin)
Readjusting the lens made the biggest difference(have done that with all but one rptv I have had and it was the 4:3 sony as it already looked great)

I do have one older(80's era) rptv chassis that I gutted to use for my audio system(it looks great)

I do plan on making a full sony change over soon if I can

Ouch that sucks Sad

I had looked at a Mitsubishi diamond view set about a month ago but when I went back to get they told me it had been damaged inside(I was bummed) it looked great on the outside for its age but it was hauled to the dump(I could have likely repaired it)

I kept looking though and found the sony I have now and am happy with it(though I would grab up a Mitsubishi laserview set in a heartbeat if I found one at the right price)

the tubes would have likely been toast in it if it was used a lot(which are getting real hard to find for certain sets)

Though a 83 inch beast would be nice no matter the aspect ratio

Now it would highly depend on the tubes but most people wouldn't even mess with one now much less own one

I have seen good fixable sets get thrown away just because the owner wanted a flat panel(they aren't worth the money)

I fear one day computers will be the same way as some companies are already making it so you can't replace certain parts(that would either help or kill my business depending on how it goes)
