|
|
Ok guys. I really can not solve this problem. My Cine Max is having problems with the vertical blue convergence at random moments. Than it is away for some time and than suddenly it comes back again. Sadly it is back all the time now.
I narrowed the problem down to blue vertical convergence. When I make only a little vertical correction than a sort of wave pattern appears visible when I turn up brightness. See the picture.
Someone suggested it might be the control board where the waveforms are created. I did find a custom fix on the chip that is close to the vertical convergence output for blue so some former owner must have had some problems before.
My question is does someone recognise this problem and perhaps knows what board it is. And is there someone that can fix it?

Either a bad convergence board or a bad controller board. I can repair them if you want to send them in.

Have you ever done a complete reset ?
Deleted all memory blocks ?

Yes I erased all blocks everything to midpos.
I have a few other questions to fellow Cine 909 owners.
Does the led on the internal remote flash a little now and than even in stand by?
Doe the voltages shift a little each second when you look at the menu?
Does the 210 V show 195 V and later 198 V and than again 190 V at startup? I mean it does not shift with temperature in my case but random at startup.

I am having a lot of issues with this Cine Max especially the power is very suspect becaue I also have the streaking issue still at very high contrast. So I exchanged all elco's in the smps that had to do with these voltages. That did not sove the problems but what it did do was. First a beeping sound in stand by disappeared when I exchanged the elco's for the ++9V stand by voltage. Second the image became much deeper black and less noisy. The experience was realy overwhelming I was looking at a brand new Cine Max. However the convergence issue disappeared and came back and the streaking never left. But to eveyone with a 909/919 exchanging the elco's after 10 years give you a much blacker and cleaner image it was more than stunning.
I include a picture with the iphone probable the last of this Max

If i remind correct the volatge values are changing more or less each second.
I've asked that in the past. Have you ever tried a brand new tube ?
This solved some of my probs i had.

Ok thanks. I interchanged the convergence plugs between the blue and the green tube and the problem shifted to the green tube. I don't think it is tube related.
This morning I changed the connector between the controller and the convergence out board between blue and red vertical but now the convergence problem has disappeared again. So I am thinking what was changed? It is a little colder in the room that is all.

But the remote could someone watch it for a while. Does it give small flashes every 5/10 seconds? Very small now and than.

To collect my own thoughts and for the curious. I still notice a very faint distortion on blue still so because I interchanged BV and RV between controller and conv out board I can conclude that the convergence outboard is the problem and not the control board.

Clean all the connections. Make sure theyre tight. That is all it sounds like to me.
The voltages move around abit on mine. Its no big deal.
The remote backlight glows all the time on mine, but nothing flashes ever. I havent looked when i press buttons, i dont use that one.

Yes it sounds like a bad joint somewhere. How do you clean the connectors with a fluid?
The last news is that I am waiting to see a failure again. I removed two elo's that where custom soldered in the blue vertical out filter on the control board (they where not in the docs and only on blue vertical). After that nothing changed so whoever placed them was probable facing the same problem. Than I looked on the convergence outboard and someone had desoldered the two elco's that stabilise the +con and -con. It looked like they where not soldered back very good. I resoldered them and measured everything. After that I have not seen the problem at all even the very faint distortion seemed away but I am not putting my hopes up to high yet. I will test some times today.
But it is clear to me that a former owner was having difficulty with blue vertical on these boards. It might be these mosfets.
One more question. That convergence rectangle is in my case folding over from the left side to the right side. Is that normal? I mean when I get to the edge the rectangle folds to the other side of the screen. It is to large. Not a big deal but strange.

Yes to the last bit, mine also does that.

Ok thanks. The convergence is still going steady for the time being.
The flashing remote might be something in the remote self. I have to track that.
The streaking at very high contrast is still there but not very disturbing. If I leave contrast at 65 I only see it in one or two scenes in all the movies that I have on my hard drive. But still I have to track that too. Right now I am thinking about monitoring the power from the PFC that measured 369 V. I have to see if that drops when I play that scene. It is not very likely the SMPS because I replaced the 300VM elco. Might still be the quad but I have tried two than both must be bad. Pffff
One small thing. I have to correct the horizontal coarse linearity pretty much. I am thinking if it is possible to manually adjust that coil T100 on the horizontal deflection unit. Did anyone do that? On the other hand this is my least worry

Im not sure, cause my linearity was pretty near spot on with no adjustments.

Ok. I am now at 70 and that is better than the 100 that I had to use prior to elco exchange.
Yesterday and the day befor yesterday I worked on a new setup. Everything still seems stable in the convergence area so I am tempted to conclude that it is repaired. I exchanged some more elco's on the SMPS and the SMPS2. The result is definitely that the picture is less noisy, deeper black or something. The picture is even a little better than what I had using the internal moome hdmi that was also heavy stabilised with elco's etc. That card also had very little noise. The VGA solution was a little noisier even with the mp modified input board.
So it took my almost no money as a friend had these elco's selected. They where all low esr panasonic and others 105 degrees. But the original elco's where high quality too. I suspect time and temperature to degrade them. This is a recommended upgrade to the Cine 9

I might look at doing this with mine in a while, it runs quite fine though. I havent had any spare time of late.

I am looking into that 'streaking' problem and I noticed that my projector does not react on boost mode. If I put it in permanent boost or normal nothing changes.
The boost is on the PFC. How does this work? Why does it not result in more light output? Questions
So far I tried EHT board and quad with no result. Also checked SMPS elco's with no result.

While I'm not a barco expert but I believe the eco/normal/boost mode change the value for the beam current limter, you should clearly see the difference between the modes with contrast at max and with a full white pattern.
