I picked up a 8500 , it starts and I can hear the fans kick on , none of the diagnostic lights show an error
however there is no light emitted form the lenses. Need to know some basic diagnostic steps

You did press the power button on the remote for about 2 seconds?
The projector does only run in standby mode, i guess.
If the power button doesn't help, make a short video with sound.
Then, they will tell you more.
Regards, Julian

| look through the front grill also, there is another set of LED's on the front on the power supply that the power chord plugs into.
If none of those are lit either, you can try pulling out the HDM, comes straight up, and cleaning the contacts between the main board and daughter board as this fault sometimes won't show and error light. Clean with De-oxit and Be careful you don't break off the plastic screw when you re-assemble. Refer to these 2 guides for what where everything is , it's fairly simple like a desktop PC

If you still don't hear a high-voltage crackle after power up and there's no light, then the High Voltage power supply is probably bad , a common failure

Reseat the HDM and the daughter board on the HDM.
Check the P14 filament voltage to see if it's over 6.5 volts. In some cases, the tubes could all be toast if the LVPS is bad and the set was left on for many hours. I've seen a few of those before. Likely the tubes are still OK, and you have a HVPS issue.
