Ok, seriously.
I like that Blu-Ray gives us High-Def for watching at home, but the BR players are so amazingly stinking slow!!!
SSlllllloooooooooooowwwwwwwww.
I've got (2) BR players.
An older Samsung - which is a *very* old player - I understand why it's slow. It was an early player.
It currently sits on the shelf. Works fine - but the next stop is the landfill because it's so ineffective.
My second BR player is an LG player which is considerably newer. AND IT'S STILL F*&#ING SLOW!!!!!
It takes 20 seconds to load (BR) Madagascar 3! A freaking kids animated movie!!!!
I'm at a cross-roads. For future movie purchases - I am seriously thinking of ONLY buying Standard Def versions of movies - just because the (SD) DVD players work *QUICK* and great! (Xbox360 for me)
I want a (BR) player that works QUICK! LIKE THE (SD) DVD PLAYERS FROM 5 YEARS AGO.
SO - I'm sick and tired of *Waiting* and *Waiting* and *Waiting* for my (BR) player to do it's job.
What is everyone else using?
1) I'm Sorry - I'm pissed off - I apologize for the rant.
2) I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum section.
3) Feel free to delete the thread if I'm the only SOB with this problem.

Apparently we are deep in the 'I want it NOW' generation!
1) turn on player
2) go make popcorn
3) Enjoy movie.
I have a 5ish year old Samsung bought at Costco in my HT (not used for 4.9 years), and a Sony from the recycler on my main RP set, which has to be about the same age. I don't have an issue with the 30 seconds or so that it takes to boot. that's about how long it takes for the 4 dogs and I to get settled in our places.

Are 20 seconds going to determine how well you enjoy the movie? I mean really... I think people need to slow it down a bit in life. Faster isn't always better.

Wow, you'd rather watch sh*tty standard definition because the player takes 20 seconds to load the disc instead of 7 or 8 or 9 or whatever? Seriously? Sorry, but that's pretty messed up.
Like Jeremy and Curt said, chill the heck out. If you're getting all bent out of shape over 20 seconds, are you stressed out or something?
I used a PS3 for years, and I've never been unhappy with the speed. Just last year, I switched to an Oppo BDP-103, and I also love it. I haven't timed it compared to a PS3, but it seems very fast.
Regards,
SC

No.
-It's the combination of 5 years of *STILL* having stupid-slow BR-players. (Is it -still- loading, or has it locked up?)
-Just getting thru the menu and the terrible delay between button pushes - due to all the crap they have to load.
-It's the Craptastic requirement to watch 10 minutes of F-ing new-releases before *THEY* allow the G.D. Menu button to work. (which SD-DVDs had some of this too...)
Am I a 'Spoiled-want-it-now' person? No.
I/we all were patient in the beginning with the NEW BR DVD players. But now we're 5 years into this format and we've still got crap players.
Apparently the only option is to buy a full-blown over-the-top high-end computer (PS3) to overcome the complete ineptitude of the (BR) player manufacturers.
Here's a spin: For all the (BR) player manufacturers - up the processor power and bandwidth. (computer technology has gotten stupid cheap! So use it!)
For the (BR) DVD editors - make the menu BAREBONES on frills - and leave the bandwidth for the damned movie.
I'm all for having HD.
So what players do you recommend?
...Regardless if your a "I-want-it-now" ...rather than later - type of person.
(PS - Thanks for the PS3 recommendations)

For the sake of 20 seconds at the start of a movie you would rather SD sources!! Wow.
I am not aware of any BD player that would load as fast as a DVD player. I believe you will find that at least part of the reason BD loads more slowly is the software the movies producers put on the disc so the disk player itself may not be the entire reason for slow loading and therefore you may not find away around the issue. BD also contains about 36 times the data of a DVD.

Holy smokes.
My posts are constructed as follows:
1) My complaint.
2) WHY I'm complaining.
3) What can I do to mitigate/resolve 'said complaints' (i.e. WHAT BR PLAYERS DO YOU RECOMMEND).
I'm not looking for why I need a 'WHAAA-bulance'.
I've consistently asked for recommendations for better/quicker BR players. (Did you miss that part?)
So far I've gotten (2) recommendation for BR players (PS3).
Quick is what I want. Is that the only option there is?

Yeah, I think this sucks too. I don't want to be forced to sit through 10 minutes of FBI warnings, previews (of movies which might have come out last year), etc. Just let me watch the freakin' movie!!
But the BD standard is set up to enable this, and they use it to the max.
