I have available to me a set of brand new bare P16LJE08 tubes, however under the cover of my XG it says the red and green must be P16LJE07, and the blue can either be P16LJE06 or 07.

Can the 08 tubes be used in the XG 852? What is different about them?

I spent abit of time setting up Aussie_Al's G70 at his joint tonight and noticed it had P16LJE08 tubes in all three slots.

My XG750 has P16LJEO8 tubes. I have a 08 green with a light wear on it. I can send it to you if you want to have a play before buying them.

No thanks Greg, i dont really want to waste any time playing around, i will either buy them and fit them or i wont. But thanks for the offer, i do appreciate that Smile

Did your set have all 08s before you changed the tubes or other numbers?

Ive done abit of reading around and have found that the 08s are inferior to the 06/07 tubes. Apparently the 08s are missing the extra grid that the P19LUG tubes have.

No problem,
All tubes are 08. They were changed back in 2002 by NEC. The part number on the invoice is 952r4631 CRT RED ASSY XG1350G. Price from NEC was $529 each. NEC charged $1040,00 to fit them.
When I fitted the 07 Green I had the issue of the tube not going to black. But I think we all agreed that the tube was faulty.Purchased a 08 from Curt to fix the problem.
I compared the mod that is on the G70 to use the 08 tubes to my neck board and the neck board is the same as the mod.
It would be nice to have a service manual with schematics to look at the different neck board configuration on XG machines.
Greg.

The G70 is factory fitted with 08s, you must mod their neck boards to use 06 or 07 tubes.

I went back through all my notes and my theory is that my XG was factory fitted with 07 tubes. NEC changed them to 08 tubes. The missing grid on the 08 tube is a no connect pin. So my conclusion was that the 07 neck board will work on the 08 tubes without being modified. The 08 neck board will need to be modified to work with the extra grid pin on the 07 tube.
This is just the conclusion I came to. I could be wrong.

It will depend on which version of the neck board you have, my set is an 852.
