Now having mentioned the G70, I would take either the G70 or an XGLC over an 8500. Both are LC and have the correct colored c elements. If you have or can push the budget, then think about a 9" pj. As Crabb told me once "I wish I would have went out on top" or something to that effect. I am going to run my G90 for at least six months and then reassess. Of course that all depends on what happens at Cedia. |
Spanky if you mind I would take you up on the sony g70s if your just going to trash the set(it may sway me from marquees who knows ) shoot me a email or pm

Maybe it is possible in the US, to just look into the garbage and find some G70, 8500 or other high end 8" projector.
I really cannot understand such things.

Unfortunately, they have little value locally or on ebay. So, what are you to do with them? I am not going to put one in the bathroom. I will only need one pj and that will be the G90 till it is replaced with a digital.
I have been thinking of asking a friend of a friend if they want it on loan. The problem is I don't want the hassle of doing everything to get them up and running. My other option which is probably what I will do is keep it for back up if the G90 goes down and I am not ready to switch to digital.

I will never ship a CRT pj. When the time comes and I dump these things, I may pull the boards and offer them up (to my buddy Curt first).

But i could not get the lens close enough to the tube surface. It was not possible to focus it.
, Julian | The HD-145 lens adapters sit behind, and have ot slide through, the factory HD-8 lens mounting plates. 2 Ways to do do it, with the joust plates you cut a chunk of the HD-145 mounting tabs off with a hack-saw, not a big fan of that although no one reported any problems with doing so. The other is to use a milling machine to notch the factory plates so the 145's go through, then bolt on to the adapter in the backing moving the lens closer to the tube by .7 inches (1.8cm). If no one can find used adapter plates I can make some as a last resort. Can't do it cheaply though, my time is not free

If not, and I just can't live with the stock colors I'll do the glycol. I'm a little nervous of doing that though. Thanks again everyone!!! |
Just to be clear, you either want the lenses or the Glycol, not both
the lenses might be a little better than the tinted Glycol, the Halo's are not as pronounced and they focus a little better too.

Draganm, how much would you guess they would to buy them from you? Even if I do get the plates, I'll still have to do some custom work on the existing mounts to get the HD 144/145 lenses to fit? Gosh, it's starting to sound like I might be best off actually buying the 9500 LC?

All you would have to do is bolt it on the machine at your end.
I'll send you a PM about it

@ Spanky:
It's just sad, that a former 18,000$ projector isn't worth anything now.
To me, it is. Definitely.
We are all happy that these things have become so cheap, but i would rather drive 500km
to get a G70 than to see anyone throw it away. So since i live in Germany.. no chance.
I already have 4 projectors and only use for two of them. I know your problem
But, Spanky, i do not want to offend you in any way, just set it on ebay for 30$ or on some local forum for free pickup.
Maybe you get to know nice people that way. That is a gain, too.
@Dragan: Thanks very much to you. Now i get the idea. And there is enough space left between the glycol chamber and the
back of the adapter plate so scheimflug will stay fully functional? Are the original plates secured from the downside?
I tried to get a plate out, but i don't have the right nut here to loose the hex-bolts that clamps the whole thing from the upper side.
Will get them tomorrow, when i'm home.
Regards, Julian

Youd have to be really keen on an AC 8500 to spend any serious amount of money fitting HD144/145 lenses, when you can get an XG that was factory fitted with them... Very cheap or cost of shipping is a different story, but youd be better off getting a better projector like a 9500 LC instead.

Regards, Julian | yes there's plenty of space and the Scheimphlug works just fine, the adjustment is a little more touchy with the HD-145's though, smaller adjustments make bigger changes. | Nashou66 wrote: | Ok I found a set of the adaptor plates. I also have a set of the Factory HD 8 plates not notched out. I can send you both as is or cut the HD 8 plates for you for a little extra.
Nashou | Nash please check with JBosch, I don't want to machine any if you have some for sale. I can notch out the HD8 plates easily enough though, that's only a 30 minute job including setting up the mill and can be done over my lunch break.

Whatever is easiest. it's a very fair price either way. I don't want to put anyone out on having to work on something they don't want to. Would this work? Nash, can you sell me your already made adapters for the $150? Dragan, can you make me the lens brackets on your lunch break? Am I missing anything? Would that be ok? Thank you very much for helping me guys!

I just hope to get something I can use to bolt on the HD 144/145s Curt is sending with my 8500. I don't have any machining ability. So just let me know who can help me. There's no great rush on it. Thanks!
