This is the one CRT projector that I've never seen before, as it was never sold in North America (I don't think).

It is completely different than any other Barco, and no parts are interchangable from other Barcos. About all I can tell you is that red LEDs in the Barcos are bad (or indicates that the projector is in standby mode), and green is on/good. If the indicators are the same as other Barcos, there is probably a red LED on somewhere, indicating an 'HV fail' mode, and from the sounds of it, you have no high voltage. Check to see if there's a red LED somewhere near the HV wiring and transformer that is on. If so, you'll most likely need to find a second 508 to rob parts from, as I don't think anyone here has parts for a 508.

Where are you located?

Also, keep in mind that the 508 is a very low end CRT projector. it only scans to 36Khz, or 800 X 600 resolution. Compared to almost all other CRT projectors, that's very low, so you might want to find a different unit to work on that has more parts available.

Also, the 'coninc' light just means that an internal memory location is being used, you can ignore that.

Cheers!

Um ,,
I was hoping this was just going to work out of the box as that was what I was told ,,

Well I can see two red led's on a board inside but they are NOT lit I found a couple of what look like fuses near a large transformer I'll check them out

so i am right in thinking that as soon as it comes of standby then i should see a screen ?

cheers

It takes a minute or so to warm up, but yes, I'd assume you'd see a start up screen. Was it new out of the box? Do you have the instruction manual? Some Barcos will not light up until you select the correct input, but again, not knowing how a 508 works, I don't want to advise incorrectly.

No it's not new out of the box it should just work out of the box,,,,

the way i am looking at with the input thing is that i have to access input selection through the setup screen as you said but as the screen is not there i cant set input

cheers

No, any Barco fault LED will be red, but will be on steadily. One that flashes as you power up is normal.

Don't spark with a screwdriver!
Do you have a manual? Coincidence tells me nothing. But, could it mean "signal bad?"
I'm German, could be that the word does not fit...
I would go and try a DVD- Player via Scart to RGBHV or RGBS- adaptor, witch ever input your projector has.
I had some issues via PC over SVideo on a TV years ago, had to add 2 capacitors to get it running.
This was a known problem, so there were fixes explained no the internet.

It is kind of normal for a CRT projector, that nolight is emitted if you dont feed a signal to it.
Not even internal patterns.
Some work without external signal with the internal patterns, some don't.
But wait: You do have a small switch on the convergence unit (bis box on top of the electronics)
that says "internal pattern". Switch this to internal, make shure all CRTs are switched on (three switches next to the pattern switch)
It would be helpful to see some pictures of the projector, maybe of the area i mentioned (convergence unit).
Regards, Julian

Edit: I'm not shure, if iÄm on the right way. I think this would be similar to my BG400, but as i read that these 508 are newer (1999 or so), it would be better someone who actually has seen an 508 chimes in and tells us how it works.

Either way i would try a DVD- Player as a source. It would give the right signal, and if your projektor is ok, a picture will show up.

I'm going to bump this thread from the depths of time because I can actually help with some info if anyone else comes across the same info.
The 508 if you select 1,2,3 or whatever on the remote either sync to the input and light up, or it will display "no input detected" in green writing on the lower right of the screen. If you press adj and go into the adjustment menu, it will display the onboard adjustment dialogues regardless of if a input is lit or not.

I have exactly this issue now though, so I'll open a new thread.
