Anyone did a comparison between those two lens sets ?
Difference is that the Nikon lens set (9 inch LC) is motorized on the Sony CRT and it's said on different forums that the sharpness is great.
Could the Nikon lens set be mounted on every 9 inch LC CRT ?

Are those lenses for LC? Can they even be found anywhere since those projectors were 1987 vintage?

The question then becomes Is the C element curvature same as HD10 series, and What about the bolt pattern

I don't know… Big, expensive lenses can get even more ridiculously expensive in low volumes. The lenses on the HDIH were servo focus if I remember correctly, so I could see the price getting out of hand pretty quickly.
Just as a frame of reference, check out the price on the Nikon 800mm f/5.6…

Obviously that's a way higher-resolution lens, with fast focus servos and optical stabilization, but it's also much smaller, and made in a little larger quantity I'd imagine.
50k Euro back then does seem steep, though. If the projector was $20k, that would have put the whole kit north of 75k Euro with a screen, which seems excessive for those times. But, who knows?

Sony's first analog HD system was launched in 1984 (only available in Japan) and it was something like $300K+ and if it utilized that lens (or something comparable) then I guess it's entirely possible. I can't imagine them selling too many so the prices would have to be through the roof.

If I am correct forum member Noos@xp37+ here owns a Sony HDIH, and he also has a Marquee 9500 ultra, there was a thread where he summed pretty much about that machine with additional pictures too. He also found that this machine is extremely sharp (even the original tubes), but not surprisingly very bandwidth limited.
I seem to remember the C-element is not compatible with the HD10's C-elements, and even the lens mounting is completely different from the USPL lenses, so you'd be better to save those lc chambers too and fit in some modern chassis.

Total different lens and c-element.
I don't think it's possible to mount it onto a normal 9 inch lc tube.
