|
|
Like the title says I have a samsung rear projection tv that I thought had better tubes then it did(I replaced one only to find the others with major wear)
I was thinking would I be better off gutting the tv and putting a marquee in the chassis and use the tv's lc chambers for the tubes?
The tv has 8inch tubes so fitting the 180 tubes in the lc chambers wouldn't be much of a problem(its removing the old cooling chambers)
Anybody think it would work out?

What do you see wroung with my idea?
Beside the tv's tubes are almost toasty and I would need to replace a part to get it back to working anyway

Would you tell me which tubes are in that TV and what model the TV is?
I'm looking for RPTV tubes that fit in projectors and want to collect some data.

That it would be an insane amount of work for no real benefit. The thing is you can find nice Mits Diamond RPTV's all day long for practically free. They make a beautiful 1080i image, so why ruin a perfectly good front projector to stick it in a box to make it like practically every other front projector?

That's how I got this tv it was given to me
I did find a source for its factory tubes but they are getting hard to find
Ps the tubes in the set are the same as used in the mits diamond tv(got a tube for one and swapped the lc chambers and hardware)
Since it looks like everyone wants me to keep the tv as is I will see if I can get the green and blue tube for it after I get the convergence amp board(it failed and took out the red tube along with its neck board)
Putting a projector in it was a idea I had which I am not even sure the marquee would have enough convergence adjustment to work fully in the setup
Its a samsung hcn4727xaa/aa and is 1080i compatible and last I seen it working it gave a beautiful pic(though it wasn't calibrated)

Guys the resion I thought of this is because of this
Blue tube(showing wear)
Green tube(looks toast)
Let me know if you still think its a bad idea
Another plus to doing this would be parts
These tvs are great but parts are getting harder to find and Samsung is dropping support for all projection tvs(reguardless of the display tech)
I am sitting on three mint marquee 180 tubes which would be prefect drop in replacements (along with the electronics)
Not to mention the ability to add inputs
I mainly think it would better as it would allow both HDTV and computer resolutions to be used(not sure if the tv supports pc display as is)

That's half my front projection screen size so it would work good
How close are you to Tennessee?
Why are you afraid to ship it?(cost or size)

I looked at it would roughly be a 11-12 hour drive one way(around 6-700 miles) to you(provided your location is correct)
Plus I would need a pick up(my escalade is a suv)as I wouldn't like towing a trailer that far
