I just finished a deal with Curt about a year 2000 built Sony G90 with decent tubes, so now im curious if anyone have some mods to share, for improved bandwidth, noise, black level, or whatever might be needed or can boost the performance of the G90

I never put my hand on one of these, and im exited to see how it compares to my VDC Marquee 9553 LC Ultra.

The G90 really does not need much.

1. Fan mods to quiet down the beast.
2. You want the correct Green C element (Marquee/Barco)
3. For the best performance, pair it with a Radiance/Moome card

That's pretty much it!

I have a extra green C element from a Marquee, and i have the Radiance XS+ who run smooth with 200Mhz

It comes with a old Moome card.

MP was working on some mods and I think Craig was helping him, but I can't be sure in my old age. My guess is that most modding is pretty much done as far as CRTs go.

What about the anti-streaking mod that was originally meant for the 1292? Didn't he come out with one for the G90?

The mods only improved the image ever so slightly and reduced image noise.

Ill buy a Cine 9 when i find it to the right price, for now im just waiting to see some screenshots from the Barco gang that shows a decent bandwidth performance. over 120Mhz.

Untill that happens it wont be able to do what i like in a CRT projector.

So i jump on the SONY G90 now, like it has proven to have some qualities, that ill like to experience.

Im just curious if there is some mods to improve the problems that the G90 have, like there is solutions to fix most of the problems with the Marquee.

I had a G90 a while back and the Image Quality was superb without any modding.

Enjoy Thumbs Up

Prepare to be amazed than Mr. Green

The primary complaint that I have with the G90 is mild inverted streaking. So far nobody has found a way to eliminate it. I spent many hours trying to track this down as did Mike Parker and the two of us together. We never solved it.

You would need to make contact with MP who did the mods. Now for the screenshots you'd need to look elsewhere as there were only two of us with the mods and I do not have my G90 any more.
Ken Whitcomb was able to dial in the G90 to the point of seeing scanlines at 1080p60. Now whether or not this was the G90 abilities or the work of the calibrator I cannot say. All I can comment on was the reduction of noise.

Just had my first G90 experience last night..

If the Marquee sounds like a F16, the G90 sounds like a F18.. Damn its loud.. Need to do something about that soon.

Now i need to find out how the focus system works, was not very impressed with my results last night.

Its bright, but it looked like it runs best with a contrast around 55, at 70 its blooming quite a lot.

Not sure if its the 166Mhz bandwidt who is to much.

Anyone have some porch settings for the G90? it looked like it was a bit picky with those to get a stable image.
