Have any of you played with "digital amps?"
In my work we use some VfDs, freq drives, and I'm pretty convinced that class d or class t amps are what we're seeing as another application of the same tech. These things work really well as motor drives and on larger PA equipment the driver is refered to as a motor.
In theory this tech could work well in audio BUT, listening is the real test. I can see it working for a sub better than a midrange but again " theory vs reality"
Anyone here played with the difference by listening?

I use Hypex class-D amplifiers in my home theater amplifiers, to my ears I don't hear a difference, although they are not suitable to drive electrostatic speakers.

I use a mix of amps. My biggest complaint at the moment is that the volume (dynamic range) is limited by my subwoofer amp. At the top is the power ( 900 w) and at the bottom is the fan noise from my sub amp. Class D seems like an interesting way to deal.
I admit I'm making an assumption that they work like like VFD drives: simulating a sine wave by switching. But regardless what system is used it would seem that the requirements of a sub would be different from a mid or a tweet: hence why separates make sense
