|
|
G'day all, My XG turns on, then after a few seconds (just about when the tubes should light up) it clicks off with an audible 'click' and I get an FD error flashing on the back.
Any idea where to start?
I grabbed a HV test probe, and hooked it up to my multimeter, and tried to check the HV coming from the block, but am not getting a reading there. Not sure if the probe is working though.
Any help appreciated, tried the usual board re-seating, but no go.
Was working fine up to this point, except for a occasional 'shimmer' on the red-tube image.

FD error code means HV-down-Vertical out PCB, So I'd sniff around the V-DEF board first, IMO HV usually don't go bad from one day to the other, without any sign.

See if you have a cracked tube. that will shut down the HV very quickly.
I'd say you have an issue with a cracked tube/bad V board, or the HV board or H deflection board is bad.
the V board by itself won't cause an Fd error, and yes, something can fail to cause the HV to shut down without warning.

If it was a cracked tube, would removing the anode leads mean that the projector would stay on without shutting down?

Yes. you can try that. Pry up on the rubber boot, don't pull on the red wire, or you'll rip it out of the connector.

The shimmer on the red tube is quite likely dirty yoke connectors.

I'll pull all the anode leads then and see wether it still turns off.
I'll give the yoke connectors a clean whilst I am in there. I haven't really played with the XG much, I used to know my way around my old PG in the dark, but the XG is a lot more complex. It has been converted to LC as well, so I'm really missing it!

Okay, even with all the anode leads disconnected, I still get the exact same problem.
I tried pulling the ribbon cable from the F-Drive and still get the same problem.
So it is looking like the HV board I guess. Anyone have one for sale?

The boards arrived today Curt, so I will be trying to fit them on the weekend. Fingers crossed it solves the problem.
