Very interesting! And scary. I can see the risk for direct-view screens, but I wonder if it's as bad for projectors? I guess reflected blue is just as bad as direct blue?
Why do you say the CRT and the Xenon lamp are so nice, when they have a huge amount of energy below 450nm ?
I may have to invest in a Reticare screen for my computer monitor, which I spend waaaaay too many hours staring at. I use f.lux to reduce blues at night, but I don't know how much damage the full blue can do during the day. Probably less because your iris is shut down because of the high ambient light level.

Bono, who has a long track record in global health, particularly as an activist in the fight against HIV/AIDS, was diagnosed with glaucoma 20 years ago. His experience with glaucoma, for which he has been able to receive excellent treatment, has made him determined to find a way to increase access to frontline eye health services for others. The U2 singer will appear in Revo advertisements and campaign materials supporting the initiative.

Hi Gary. I do not have measurements of led projectors. But reflection does not change the spectral distribution and when proper calibrated the intensity is exactly the same. It gets even worse with the rec2020 projectors as they have an even smaller blue spectral distribution and I do not dare to contemplate what will happen with the new monochrome laser projectors.

They do not have that small peaked frequency distribution damaging a smaller area much worse.
The broader blue looks more like the blue from the sun and we do know that two hours sunlight a day does somewhat repair the eyes. So it is possible the good blue or the infrared helps to repair the eyes (It seems the eyes produce dopamine in direct sunlight). Do not forget that the led projector also has less near infrared.

Yes true. But infrared and ultraviolet are also important. There is something with full spectral light that makes your iris smaller because scotopic blue seems to influence that somehow. So full spectral light makes vision sharper and protects better. I have a "true light" lamp at daytime. I also use the night mode on my apple computers. At daytime I use a very cool red colour temperature that reduces the blue pretty much.

Funny, in the end it turns out LCD displays are more harmful to the eyes than the good old CRT, opposite of the hype that was made back in the day promoting flat panels...

Is it possible that my stockpile of CRT projectors is about to become more valuable? I could hope!
