Well not all ends lucky I had the rods shortened and she hang perfect so I wanted to do a serieus setup. First I had to change the scan connectors for ceiling projection. So I did and later checking I did it all right. But green came up with a vertical line and than something sparked and the light did not come further up. Checked the connectors but every time I start the Cine max everything seems ok but no light or image anymore.
I see however that the tubes are glowing I mean the cathode but I don't hear the little sparks that you always hear when the set turns on. Could it be something with the high voltage? But would not the set turn off than?
I am afraid that this is bad and I might have to turn to my 809 with these tubes and lenses on it. That was sort of the backup plan anyway. Perhaps I can sell the Cine Max for parts?
But ok, the last screenshots. I knew this CRT was going to be a road with trouble The 809 has much better to get spare parts.
You guys have an idea what to try now?

Ouch. Have you shined a flashlight into the lenses to look at the tube faces? It sounds like you lost horizontal deflection, which would be sad indeed.
Sorry I don't have the Barco skills to help you troubleshoot any further.

Good point. The tube faces seem perfect still
Perhaps some fuse died keeping the set from turning on further?
Also all diagnostic leds turn green. So the hardware seems ok.
I shall check the connectors tomorrow perhaps a lose wire. Perhaps the HV shuts down when the scan fails?

If you are saying that there is no HV and therefore no image on any tube you could have a scan fail situation due to changing the switches from floor to ceiling. Put them back the way they were and see if you get HV. The image will be upside down but this just to test.

Yes tried that but didn't help. I suspect that when taking the connector out I might have disconnected a wire. It is very difficult to get a grip on the connector so I had to pull the wire too. I think I need some tool for that.
But supposing a lose wire will the Cine max detect that and shut the HV down? I hope so.

Reading through the documentation I see there are some more leds to check.

You turned it off before touching the plugs ofcourse?
I painted the case myself yes, its very easy to remove.

Try turning it on with no source device connected at all. If you get nothing after about a minute press the TEXT or MENU button. Either one should bring up some OSD.

I am thinking that perhaps I misplaced the horizontal scan connector for green as it seems possible to mis one pin for that one. Than possible I shorted the horizontal module that way. Don't know what is damaged that way. I'll check the fuses on the smps but I am afraid that the horizontal scan module might be broken now. Very stupid, change the connectors in full light.

Wow, the connectors aren't keyed at all? If not, that's a pretty poor design.

I cant remember if they are or not, but i dont think so. Shouldve just blown a fuse somewhere if anything.

The connectors aren't keyed . There are no fuses on the horizotal module or on the smps (HTHD)

Hi,
Too bad they didn't keep the scan switches as they had them on previous models. No need to fiddle with any connector!
I think that the H-Deflection board might be dead on the green channel and the protection circuits kick in to prevent tube burn. If it was a fuse only there wouldn't be any output on any channel. And that fuse could only be on the SMPS or the SM Power 2/G2 board...
Regards,
barclay66

I checked all fuses but the soldered ones can only be checked on board and that seems questionable but all seem ok.
It seems like the Cine max thinks all is right but the protection kicks in to stop the g2 and HV on all tubes.
When it went wrong I only saw a vertical line on the green, the red and blue never showed light. But it sparked and sounded like something was burning. So probable the HD on green yes.
I think I spotted all leds now so I am going to check which ones are lighted.
If it is the HD could it be repaired?
Also checked all wires in all scan connectors. All ok.

Hi,
Repairing Barco boards has been described as a tricky task and spare parts like the power MOSFETs on them are hard to come by. I would recommend asking Curt for a repair or replacement. He might ask You for sending in a couple of boards (like H Deflection plus V Deflection plus SMPS) just to make sure that one of them didn't take out another and that the repair is successful...
Regards,

Yes. You should do that first and report back. You'll find LEDs on the following boards:
- SM Power 2/G2 (lots)
- SMPS (one green at least)
- H Deflection (one green and two red at least)
- V Deflection (one red at least)
- EHT Module (one red at least)
- RGB Input (lots, not important here)
- RGB Driver (one red, not important here)
- Port 3 board (two green, not important here)
Basically any green LED lit is good and any red lit is bad. Missing greens can be bad too (e.g. missing voltages)...

Video switcher is ok. Green led. Becomes red when I disconnect hdmi on port 3.
Diagnostic part SMPS2 and the horizontal deflection board show these leds. Seems ok to me. They where on immediately and stayed this way.
The SMPS showed these two green leds.
I could not find leds on the vertical deflection board or the EHT. But the EHT is difficult to spot but there seemed only red leds on the print and they do not burn.

I think their idea was the set would be installed and adjusted by trained technicians and at that price point itd be unlikely for them to get it wrong.
Whatever has been damaged should be repairable without too much trouble, i wouldnt be too concerned, these things happen, the good thing is youre very very unlikely to make any other mistakes.
There is a green LED out in that big row there, unplug the set and pull the board out to see what that LED is for.

Thanks Makes me feel a little better. It is certainly lesson money. I think it would have been wiser to first experiment with an 808 to get a feeling for it and than go to a Cine MAX. Anyhow I will do that now.
Hope they are not irreplacable mosfets on the HD unit that have burned.

Well working on the 808 probably wouldnt have been of much use, the sets are quite different. See above, i have made an edit.
