It shouldnt be noisy, mine is quiet unless i go to a high scan rate.
The on then back off thing happens, its no big deal.
When you say you had to go to MAX on convergence, what setting? I hardly move much with mine. Delete EVERYTHING, then start up again.

Ok, will try this because when I was working on the testimages I heared less noise I think than suddenly when I had the white internet browser on a longer time the noise kicked in but it stayed on a higher level. I also remember a temperature around 21 degrees but it was 28/29 degrees yesterday.
What surprised me too was the dynamics in this picture. Deep black and than with contrast on 50 and brightness on 50 very light white. I have been watching digital since 2010 and they had far less light in my case far less dynamics, contrast.
One other point that caught my attention perhaps there is a little bit more picture noise than I remember from my Marquee 8500. Very very little if at all.
But whatching gravity it rmemembered me of battlestar galactica. Did I watch that series on CRT? Yes it was ended in 2009 Probable the last one I watched on CRT. Boy have I been bored since

Hmm I realise I am over enthousiastic. Well I had to wait for this Cine MAX to arrive shipping for over two months!
One question. With almost new tubes I should probable keep the contrast below 50 some time?

If anyone wants to know what happens when you misplace a scancoil plug I think I found out.
In my case the horizontal deflection voltage was put on the scan fail line. The result was that two resistors burned on the EHT board (at least). A friend looked at the board and immediately saw this. This means that there is a chance that the board can be fixed.

Run the contrast at where you need to, the tubes last a long time anyway. They will probably last til the death of the set.
There is alot more to it then simple numbers in a menu, so i wouldnt even give that a thought.
Here is a couple colourful pics for ya:

Wow man very sharp subtitles even in the corners. I was not even close to that
I resetted all convergence and indeed she was as silent as I could wish with 21 degrees temperature. But did not have the time to do another setup. On the positive side the mechanical setup takes a lot of time but the convergence can be done in minutes Also done some focus but did not bother about the astig yet.

Yeah mate the mechanical aspect only need be done once though, and from there you shouldnt need to redo it provided you did it right first go.
I havent done the astig since moving mine and putting in the new screen, so some improvement can be made there yet. Those games seem to really bring out the exceptional contrast ratio and sharpness, its great.

Yeah mate im very happy with it, loads of people can claim that its "not much better than a standard Wii" or "the PS3/Xbox360 did 1920x1080p years ago" but both statements are totally incorrect. Its a big step up from a Wii, and its the first console that has 1920x1080p resolution for its games and not just its output.

He guys. We fixed the EHT board. I was very lucky with this fault situation as there seemed to be only damage in the low voltage part. Two resistors and a transistor where replaced and I build a test setup with my 809 that is a damned quiet beamer by the way. The lights went on!!! The board is fixed.

Thanks for the push over the fence
I have a birthday coming up in may and I think I know what I want to add to my game collection(time to ditch the old wii )

Ok I have done a better setup. I succeeded in getting the rasters at the same height with the pots. The convergence now was within normal numbers everywhere except for one corner but have to sort that out later.
The fans where quiet in this setup, now and than something spins up but most of the time I mostly hear the wind blowing. So I have to say this Cine MAX is very quiet for a CRT. I remember having a Runco 933 I think 7 inch and that one was even a bit louder. The Marquee I had was a lot louder.
So I watched some episodes again and wow that I ever doubted going to CRT again this is a whole different world. Digital that I had does absolutely not come near. No way!

How clueless would somebody have to be to try to claim the PS4 is "not much better than a Wii?" The PS4 and Xbox One are both a pretty significant jump up from the previous-gen consoles, and the previous-gen consoles were already a massive jump up from the Wii. Graphics-wise, the Wii was technically outdated even when it was brand new.
The PS3 did have a few 1080p games, but the were way too few and far between.
At first, I felt like the PS4 was just a nicer, faster PS3 with better graphics, new controllers, and sharing. But, since I've spent a little time with it, I've gotten more impressed. The graphics are just really impressive for a console. My boy and I have been playing the demo of NBA 2K14, and one day my wife walked into the theater and for a minute or two, thought we were watching an actual NBA game!
And just wait… The games will get way better in a couple of years when they stop dumbing down the content for the PS3/360. The AAA titles should look amazing in a couple of years.

I agree with you on the graphics of the ps4 its so realistic its unbelievable
Most of my ps3 titles are 720p and 1080i(I think one is 1080p) older ps games look like crap compared to the ps4(even at 720p upscaling)
So glad I preordered mine
My first game for the ps4 is need for speed rivals(like the weather changes will driving in the game)

Re-read Crabb, i said their claim was "WiiU not much better than a Wii", however that is incorrect. I never brought XboX ONE or PS4 into it.
I remember a discussion on the NEO-GEO facebook group where a heap of them wereclaiming these new consoles were not much of a step up from their previous versions, however that is a load of garbage. Either way, the PC blows them all clearly away with ease and always will, thats a given.
I agree that the Wii was under powered in some ways from the start compared to other consoles, but that isnt the aim. The idea from Nintendo has never been about the greatest most powerful hardware, the SNES was a far cry from the raw processing power of the Mega Drive, even though it had better graphic abilities in SOME respects. The majority of the games on Nintendo consoles were aimed at a younger audience, especially on the N64 and Wii. Where other consoles were heading in a direction of PC territory, they became way too complicated to be fun for me, id rather play those sort of games on a PC where i have all the control possible.
The WiiU is clearly better than a PS3 or Xbox360. In every way. Its got all the great simple platformers and Mario Kart coming soon to boot. Cant top that.

Mario kart is one game I like on any Nintendo console(even the handheld consoles)
One more reason I have put off getting one so far(like the super Mario bros game as I have seen a demo of it)

The WiiU version is even more awesome than the Wii version, and there is a Super Luigi U version as well, also awesome.

The super luigi u game is one I haven't seen a demo(I am a nintendo ambassador so I get demos and get sneak peaks at new games before most)
Since my birthday is coming up I think a trip to my local game stop will be in order
Nintendo has dropped the price on the wii u due to sells
How is the backwards compatibility on the wii u system(that is one of two cons I have with the ps4)
Of the three consoles sony's ps4 is king of the hill due to hardware(microcrap used DDR3 ram where Sony used DDR5 ram(huge difference in proformance)
My marquee has seen more gaming then movies lately (thanks fully I have upgraded the fans so they are quieter) just have to fix my sub(darn thing cuts off half the time)

You can play Wii games fine, and the controllers are identical to the Wii controllers, so they all work too.
If you get one Evan, we will have to have a race on Mario Kart 8 online
