Hi,

I have a AVR-2308CI with the protection mode issue, stays on for about 5 seconds then red ring of death.

I've read through a bunch of topics on this site but cant find a unit that looks quite like mine (on the inside, circuit boards, etc). Also been through YouTube and found similar issues with other Denon units but again none that look quite the same as mine. I'm thinking it's the common resistor issue but not sure about it.

On the attached pic, I'm getting continuity across all legs of the middle resistor. Is that most likely the suspect?
Btw, those resistors are on the CPU Supply Unit board.

Any help would be great and appreciated!

If your receiver is going into protection as you described, it is likely due to a blown amplifier channel or component within the channel.

Your receiver needs board level repair, nothing a quick fix will repair, and it is something that shouldn't be attempted if you've never actually repaired a receiver before (people tend to forget screws, damage boards from trying to remove them and put them in, etc...)

Once the channel is fixed, it should operate like normal. Blown amplifier channels are nothing serious, and is usually the most common fault of audio receivers.

Also in reply to your photo, the middle "resistor" is not a resistor, and it could be reading that way because that is how the circuit is designed, not necessarily a fault of the component.
