Guys

One of the first projectors expressly for computer display.

EDP56 monochrome green, 24khz, usually sold with a six foot curved screen for about $7500, and a kit to pull signals out of tubes with no video output. The ad shows the EDP58, which scanned a bit higher for VGA and the first Macintosh

Bah, you're both futuristic!

I have an RCA 1947 vintage projection TV system here.. that I'll work on.. one day.

It used a similar tube to what Tinman shows, but it fired downward onto a parabolic mirror, then up onto a massive 30" screen. It's buried right now, but it's this:

Mine doesn't have the record player in it.

Wow, that is the tv a friend of mine was telling me about. He said his neighbor had one when he was a kid.

I worked for a computer dealer in the 85-88 time frame and we had one that looked exactly like that, right down to the smoked acrylic swiveling desk stand. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the first time I ever heard of the Electrohome brand. I remember thinking it seemed a little old-fashioned even then. Wink I bet it was the EDP-56 we had. It also came with a big padded black nylon bag to put it in. We had a tripod DaLite screen to display it on and used it for some classes in word processing, database, and spreadsheet.

The ad above has a little red starburst in the upper-right that says "LIMITED TIME SPECIAL - $2,995 including deskstand - February 1-September 30, 1987". $3000 or 3500 is about what I would have expected for a projector as that was a ton of money in 1987. Was it an earlier model that was $7500, Tim?

Say Crabb

These were first out in '83 or so. The color machines were rolling out by the time of the ad so the 1/2 price deal would have been a final closeout.
