Speaking of that I wonder if my "new" Ampro 4000 had issues because somebody modded the fans??

Yet I do not see YOUR ampro listed in your stash. Very Happy The ones I messed with all had drift issues after just a couple months of use. Everyone of them!! And that stupid, impossible to use remote....UGH!!! I could never dial in the 4200's focus. But then again the marquee needs it every 5 months. The Barco 1208 was 7. Best one so far(should have kept) was the Runco-933. Man that thing could sing when properly setup after the 4 hour job to do it. It lasted 2 years and was still cruising but took it down and gave to a friend. Mad

Ive never seen an Ampro over here. Macgyver always spoke very highly of their reliability, as did Stefuel, thats good enough for me Wink

Im not suprised you say the NEC was stable, i never touch mine, never actually needed to once it was set. Nothing moves ever. Not even on the Plain PG, which was running at near full tube face for about 5 years against recomendations from Curt that theyre not designed for that, it required alot of pincushion and abit of point to get it aligned with that amount of face usage. It worked perfect and never really drifted at all til the day it was decomissioned, last time i went to use it the convergence board had failed, but i had two spare.

When it comes to bullet proof reliability, its hard to go past the Sony VPH 1001-QM... I have two of those, brilliant machines.

Despite what you say about AmPro, they were pretty damn innovative in their day. I'd really put the blame on Spellman. Take away the Ampro's HV issues, and things would pan out a whole lot differently.

If you are getting drifting from all these different machines in such a short period of time, maybe it's not the equipment causing the problem. Mr. Green

If Ampro was so bad, then why was VDC still selling them until recently? Wink

Come to think of it, has anyone seen one of those Tacs (?) in the wild?

Even the occasional Ampro HV supply problems are easily remedied. Compare that to the Marquee blowing up supplies beyond repair and Barco supplies being unrepairable, even the Ampro's 1 issue is still 10 times better then other makes problems. Lets also again clarify my comments to only include Ampros in the x300/x600 range. 4200 was border line. Before that mostly experimental.

Yes, and why were they the military's "display of choice" for decades, and many still in service, in some of the worst placement conditions.

Well like I said...the 4200 was the most advanced unit I had the experience with. I know there was a 4600. I gave one to my cousin and I never even set it up nor have seen it in action since he lives 4 hours south of me.

Curt, Do you think the HV issues were what caused the noise on some of the neck boards in those older models? Like that G2 dip crap. And why oh why did they not use larger fans in those units? They were wind tunnels! And every other old ampro I ever saw looked like someone had pissed in the tubes the glycol was so yellow.

That was probably because that AmPro already prepared to piss-off its owner Wink

Id have to state i believe youre in over your head now, the 1001 uses the Sony 07MS tubes, as used in many other 7" ES focusing sets. They were quite bright and reasonably long lasting.

Very low lumens you reckon? Sony didnt seem to think so!! They even say so on the back!! Laughing

I had the same thoughts... Since these were comments made by a man that recently believed his 1024x768 LCD projector could do 1920x1080 simply cause he got an image on screen, one has to wonder as to how these thoughts come about Laughing
