Crabb is right. It really just depends on how little ft/lmbs you are willing to accept. Personally I like a bright image. |

That is awesome.
I just looked it up and Chris is using the same material. I know I have mentioned it before, but Steve Smith (former G70 owner and Darinp's friend) and I saw this at Cedia. When we walked up to it, we both thought it was a solid screen. Even after looking at it for awhile, we were still convinced it was a solid screen. IIRC we had to look at the literature to realize that it was AT. The previous year Ruben had his 4k material and I thought this was the first time that I would be satisfied with AT. Ruben is out of business, which to my knowledge leaves this material. I am not a big fan of the other materials.
IIRC Chris said he doesn't do DIY with this material. I think he said a complete screen starts at $1500 or $3k. I can't remember which. I do remember him saying he would take care of AVS members, so a good deal can be had.

Yes, I'm not aware of any other AT materials that are so lacking in any sort of texture - it's a fantastic material. You can see somewhat of a texture when you're a couple inches from it (still no holes), and even that disappears once you're outside of a couple feet from the screen. As you said, it's quite an impressive material and it's one of a kind.

No, unfortunately he doesn't offer just the material for DIY. My screen was in that price range (it's 140" x 60"), and there was no black velvet frame, it was just the material mounted on the front of a bare aluminum 1" square frame to go underneath my Masquerade. Like I said, definitely on the expensive side for AT, but if you have the money it's the absolute best AT screen out there (unless you need something with gain and have to go with a perforated screen).

My humble little CRT Blend (a pair of MP heavily modified Marquee 9500 Ultras, blended through a Tim Martin special Analog Way Diventix) projects onto a 12 foot wide Ruben SMX acoustically transparent 2.35:1 screen.
