Derp. Too damn funny.

I'm a little bummed the weekend didn't quite work out like I'd planned. I was all excited that the meet was the same weekend as AXPONA… Bonus! Double-fun! What I didn't plan was how little time I'd really have for fun and just how wiped out I'd be.

Thursday night was out for me since that was setup day for the show. Mark didn't even start loading in until about 3:30 in the afternoon. We got mostly set up, but we ended up leaving the room about 3:30 Friday morning.

Friday night worked out OK, but I got away much later than I'd hoped. I don't think I made it until about 10, but it was totally worth it. It was great to see old friends and meet some new friends. It was fun to finally meet Athanasios in person, and I really enjoyed getting to know Justin. I even got to finally meet the notorious AnalogRocks! What a great bunch. Several people had never seen Art of Flight, so I brought in my copy from the car and we cranked it up on the stack. It looked awesome on Cliffy's big screen and sounded awesome on the system.

I wish I could have been there earlier since I think people were already getting pretty tired when I hadn't been there long. Still fun, though. I was all set to leave at 2am, but then stood there shooting the sh*t for almost another hour before I finally made myself leave. I got back and crashed in my room about 4am. For the second night in a row.

I had planned to come down Saturday night too, but the late nights were caught up with me, and I didn't think I could safely drive to Cliff's and back. I went to dinner with group from the show instead, had a couple of drinks at the bar, then went back to the room and crashed about 2am.

On Sunday, Spanky stopped by the show and we BS'ed and caught up a little. Since his CEDIA travel plans were foiled last fall, I think the last time I saw him was in Indianapolis in 2012. He says he's planning to fly to Denver this fall, so hopefully he'll make it.

The AXPONA show was a lot of work, but was fun. Mark's setup was awesome, and as always, he surrounds himself with a good bunch of people who were truly enjoyable to be around.

I left Chicago last night pretty late after we spent nearly four hours packing Mark's room back up and loading it in a truck. Seven pallets of stuff, not including what people hand-carried out. I had to drive to Detroit for work, but only made it to a little town about 90 minutes from Detroit before I had to stop and check into a crappy hotel because I was so tired I could barely see straight.

Anyway, just wanted to thank Cliff for opening his house up for everybody to get together, and everybody else for traveling from so far away. Great to see/meet everybody and hope we can do it again some time when I don't have to work and I can just focus on having fun.

Cheers,
SC

No need to be a dickhead about it, once again, it was quite clear to anyone that gave it some thought before they shot their keyboard off that i was joking... You'd think you'd know not to take anything i say seriously by now, but twice in a fortnight? Come on Spanky.... Laughing

Id have thought it was quite CLEAR to anyone with the capacity to think for themselves, since you were all there and I obviously was not...

How on earth could any of you present at that time possibly think I actually was trying to tell you all I wasn't there??? You all knew i wasnt there, I knew I wasn't there.... Everyone that was there knew I was not there. Not sure if i can make that any more clear a point, but I gotta wonder how anyone could think that there was a remote chance I was serious.... But hey, at least two of you did, or are crazy enough to publicly claim you did... The mind truly boggles.... Laughing Laughing

Sorry gentlemen, I cant help it if you're that slow.... Laughing

Seen as though this will probably never happen again it would be nice if someone put names on faces so we know who's who.

Chip I posted a few with the names I knew the faces belonged to.

Case I knew you were joking, I must not be slow Wink

Steve it was great to finally meet you as well. Sorry I called you Blain when i fist came up stairs the beer and my eyes trying to focus from just leaving the blazing stack was the culprit . Wink

It would have been cool if you did get their earlier, but the couple hours we talked was great. Nice to be able to talk with like minded folk for a change.

Athanasios

Mega thanks goes out to Cliff and Craig for opening their homes and letting us enjoy their theaters and hospitality. A special thanks goes out to everyone else for attending. Don, Nash, and Curt receive a mega thanks for the bbq, lamb and crabs.

My Chicago leg started on Thursday when I rolled in to Craig's place and saw Curt packing up a 909 to ship home. Jeffslife was there as well. We talked for awhile and I had Craig change the Dallas chip on my YA boards. Unfortunately, one of my boards was bad. I blamed it on Curt Razz. We then went downstairs to watch the CIR90 (a reference G90). I had asked Craig earlier about seeing 3D with my new glasses. Craig has done some work on improving 3D and it didn't disappoint. I am still not a fan, as 3D still seems to be hit and miss depending on the movie. After dinner, we came back and watched Moon. Lots of dark scenes which makes CRT owners giddy. Very Happy

On Friday, Curt, Craig and I were going to go to Axpona, but unfortunately got a late start. We ate breakfast and then walked around Craig's area of Chicago. After several hours of conversing with Craig, I hit the road to Cliffs. I stopped in to Walmart and picked up some Depends before arriving. After all these years of Cliff saying that people would need protection from soiling themselves, I wanted to be prepared. Wink

Friday night ended up being a blast. The food brought by Nash and Curt was excellent. Hanging out in the theater and shooting the sh$t was priceless. The highlight of the evening for Cliff and me was the "Wish you were here" SACD that Ken gave to him. Cliff and I both teared up listening to it. It was that awesome.

Saturday was more of the same. Nash and Justin left and Rocco and some others replaced them. Don woke up early to handle the brisket and pork. Easily some of if not the best BBQ I have ever had. The rest of the day was more of the same with plenty of time in the theater. I guess I win the prize for most time in the theater as I slept in there both nights. Shocked

Sunday everyone took off and I decided to head up to the show. I only went to Seaton's room. Excellent demo on two channel. I wish I could have heard surround, as Steve said it was amazing. I talked with Crabb for awhile and then headed on back down to Evansville and Atlanta yesterday.

All in all it was great trip and meet. I met some new people and hung out with old friends. Heck it looks like Curt and I are starting to see each other more often. Smile Of course the trip isn't over. Cliff is headed down to Melbourne next week and I am headed back to SoFl as well. I am going to give tse a call and see if we can all get together for dinner and maybe a quick tour of VDC.

As far as a Virginia meet, I should be in. I told Haflich that I would come up to see the Sony 4k and I probably need to head to Raleigh. It would be great to see the blend and Don's CIR90.

Agree. I assumed you were joking, but without an emoticon how was I to know. Anyway, I don't care.

It was great meeting you Steve as well as everyone else. Before deciding to make the trip I was contemplating whether it would be worth it considering the truckload of professional and personal obligations on my plate but I'm truly glad I made the trek up with Tom. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer;-)

As someone not used to being a road warrior I spent 43 hours riding in a car last week between work and personal activities. I'm really feeling it now. I have a bunch of hi-rez photo's I need to upload to Photobucket and I promise to get it done in the next couple of days. I think my shot of Cliff on the couch will do down in history Razz

I showed up minutes after Athanasios and Justin had left on Saturday. Would have liked to have met both those gentlemen. Also managed not to cross paths with Steve (ecrabb). Meeting you particular gents in person was a big reason for me attending, but I guess the schedules just didn’t line up (attending Friday was impossible for me).

Got acquainted with the likes of Eric, Don, Jeremy, Arli, Ken, William and Mark. Had a nice discussion with Jeremy about diet while we chomped on artificially flavored potato chips and I sampled Curt’s nasty chocolate infused red wine. Also enjoyed Eric's deadpan delivery and his very subtle diaper gag.

Casey showed up and soon he, Jeremy, Arli and I were talking at length about cars. Casey even let me drive his spanking new white Audi TT Quattro. That is one gorgeous, very quick and awesome handling buggy!

Don: Your brisket was the best I’ve ever had. Phenomenal.

Talked a bit with William aka Bendmaster and Mark Haflich – interesting, informative video gear discussions. Look forward to seeing William’s blend some day.

There was a soft spoken local gentleman who has a Marquee stack who was there Saturday night. Can someone remind me of his name/handle?

Of course enjoyed seeing Curt, who I last saw in person at the 2007 CES. He somehow hooked a beautiful well mannered woman by the name of Barb but he doesn’t even have a cool cover story for how he accomplished this feat.

Cliff, it was really great meeting you and having the chance to see your awesome G90 stack system. I really enjoyed listening to the vinyl you spun and cranked up on your system as well. Thank you for putting the meet together and getting so many of us to converge at your home. And given your current challenges, you will get past them. It may not seem like it now, but what you really have is one big opportunity for positive change in front of you. Try to recognize that and endeavor to maintain a good attitude and things will work out for the best.

Steve
