On a brighter note, I can make either of the weekends under discussion.

Whoa, I've been away for a few months and the first thread I read I'm being quoted? lol Great, I've been reduced to an emoticon. Shocked

Sorry to hear about your situation Cliff. Thanks for putting the call out for one more big blast. I've never had the opportunity to come to one, but the pictures are great. Please guys take some photo's of this one.

I definitely hear you about the big expensive house. We just sold and moved to a new house (#8 in 15 yrs) which is barely 60% of the size of the last one. Can't believe how expensive things can get (2 a/c's, 2 furnaces, 2 water tanks, bills, taxes, mortgage...). Been there, done that, never again (without a big lotto win anyways).

I'd love to actually meet more of you guys in person. I cant make it either. Baby #2 due right about then. If Curt ever holds a meet (not meat), I might be able to convince the Mrs to make a trip of it and she can visit her friend (near Curt) and I can hang out with you guys. No Smoker though. Friggin thing weighs like 270 lbs. Another great hobby though. Beer, Wine, Cooking, BBQ, CRT. Yup got enough hobbies. Thumbs Up

No, Dad, I'm not quite done yet. Actually, we had the first measurable snowfall here in 3 years, on Tuesday. The wifey stayed home to work the last 2 days (Tuesday and Wednesday). I did not want to hear "what are you messin with that for, when I've got so many other chores you could be doing for me" whilst I was setting up the test. So, I postphoned testing until Thursday, when she is back at work.

I'm all in for the weekend of April 25-27, and so is the Diventix......................

Its gonna be raining Analog Way parts in Indiana!!!

Assuming work doesn't screw me with travel or something, I'm in for coming over the 26th!

OK, what's the story with the Diventix, guys? Are you seriously going to send one those to electronics hell? What did it do to you? Wink

Dear SC;

Well, see, it was like this:

Once Upon A Time, long long ago (2006, December), in a state far far away, when God was knee high to a grasshopper, and the last of the dinosaurs still roamed the Great Midwest, a young Cliffy fast talked a "shouldda known better" BlendMaster (TM) Tim Martin into loaning him a Diventix blender. See, young Cliffy was still deciding between an evil stack Twisted Evil or a wholesome blend Very Happy for his new Home Theater.

Older, wiser Tim shipped young Cliffy the loaner Diventix. You know, the box that spent most of its life in a shipping container, bounced around by USPS, FedEx, and/or UPS loading dock knuckle draggers. Young Cliffy received said POS Diventix, roughly the day before the Blend Meet (TM), and proceeded to spend all night guessing at polynomial values for soft edge blending curves, barely getting a watchable picture about the time the first Blend Meet (TM) attendees begin to appear the next afternoon. Of course the poor Diventix was just wasted, having been up all night with Cliffy, after just having been slammed around on its cross-country journey to Indiana. The POS Diventix did not exactly shine that weekend..........

Young Cliffy swore off any future blending, and that's when he opted for the easy way out, and was seduced to the evil stack dark side. Evil or Very Mad And this, Virginia, is how, first the double stack, and then later, the triple stack, came into being.

Any time I want to scare young Cliffy, I email him an image of a Diventix. Works every time. Nightmares for weeks...... Bringing a Diventix to Cliffy's Last Meet (TM) for target practice is simply upping the ante!

Unbiased William

PS: There is a happy ending to Young Cliffy's sad tale of woe. The next year (2007), Slightly-Older (SO) William decides to embark on the research project known as blending CRT projectors. SO William also contacts BlendMaster Tim, and arranges for the POS loaner Diventix to be shipped to his Home Theater, for an "Unveiling Meet" (TM). The POS Diventix performs no better for SO William than it performed for Young Cliffy. But, the slightly wiser, slightly older William had the foresight to have had the loaner shipped a couple of weeks before the Meet. So, there was time to adjust.

SO William then talks BlendMaster Tim into sending him a new Diventix. The new Diventix has none of the problems of the POS Diventix. SO William (with the help of Mike Parker, Terry F., JBJR, and others) successfully sets up the new Diventix, using no Soft Edge Blend Curve adjustments. The new Diventix has remained on SO William's equipment rack, ever since, performing its job admirably, with no hiccups whatsoever. In point of fact, Young Cliffy has visited SO William's HT numerous times, remarking that watching in SO William's HT reminds Young Cliffy of his own HT. The moral of the story: soft edge blending is not for everyone.

OMG, that was hilarious, William. Thanks for taking the time to bring us up to speed on the inside joke. Great story.

Having been in A/V and production in some capacity for most of the last twenty years, I really related to this part about Cliffy's plight getting ready for the meet:

Man, if I had a dollar for every time I was mashing something together with bailing wire and duct tape, hammering away at it, beating it into submission at the very last minute, I could retire already. Somehow, mysteriously, magically, I'm always able to pull everything together and it all goes off without a hitch, and nobody ever knows how much time and effort went into it unless they happened to have been around behind the scenes... But, those big successes are never without much stress, consternation, sleepless nights, and sweat. Oh, and swearing. Wink

Dear SC;

You are most welcome. I expect Slightly Older Cliffy to chime in just about any time, with some minor "corrections" to the story. I did provide the Reader's Digest version.

Who knows? He might make both me and the Diventix "dance" with his sawed off shotgun, loaded with slugs............

Slightly Older, Possibly Wiser, Probably Not Much Longer For This Earth
William

LMAO The "Reader's Digest version". Classic. That is why I like you so much William. You have freaking class Smile

The only thing I will add is between Ken, Arli, Clarence and I we had it 98% PERFECT in the Blend zone and the image was amazing. Only time you could see the blend zone was on black out.

There is a big difference though in the way I did it. The blend zone was wider because I did 1:85 instead of 2:40.

The last two really show how bad ass that blend zone looked Smile

Well, all of them really!

Cliffy
