Think I posted on this topic before...
My first was a Discovery Channel Wonderwall. It was a Christmas present from my dad I distinctly remember watching both part of STAR WARS and DIVA in my sisters old room with this thing pointed on the ceiling. When I took it back with me to college, we would play Nintendo on it pointed at the wall.
The resolution was sub-video grade (320x240) with horrible screen door effect. Even a BarcoVision could kick this things ass! Had this thing not been SO BAD, I probably would never have considered CRT. It really got me thinking about home theater for the first time.
The marketing for this thing was incredibly misleading. Check out the commercial here from TV:

Versus actual performance. I really think the guys from the HOME SHOPPING NETWORK are laughing at how bad this thing is:

This review really lays the argument against the not-so-Wonderwall:

| Quote: | | I'm almost embarrassed to post this, seeing as most of you started out with CRT PJs. My very first projector was... *sigh* ... a Proxima DP5800 800x600 LCD projector. In fact, was what I spent my first paycheck from my first job when I was 16 on. It was already 8 years old then (now 18 wow how time flies), cost $185, had about 100 hours left of the bulb, and nice little purple blue dust spots that got projected along with the image, but it was awesome just to have a screen as big as I wanted. |
Looks like the WonderWall beats the Proxima at the lowest rung

My first CRT projector was an Advent with a huge 40 inch curved grey screen that was about 15 feet away from the projector that was on the floor. It could be converged in 3 minutes. It brought a lot of folks to my video room to see the large screen. What fun.

I just recently received one of these pieces of sh*t in a lot of projectors... I didn't even give it a second look and threw it in the goodwill pile.
Good for a true first timer I guess

My first projector was a Sony Vidimagic, WITH the betamax in the back. Not bad at all on a curved screen. Pro's... no convergence needed. Con's... well, it was pretty dim compared to a 3 gun beast. But it was cool at the time.

My first CRT projector is my BD801s it was free to me 10+ years ago and it's made 2 moves and still looks good. I'm going to set it up in my bedroom once my new to me BG808s is up and running in the theater.
