I reserve the right ot form my own opinion
If you really have to heighten the projector that would push the decision towards the smaller projector... from the description the G70 has the worst tubes, and they are amongst the hardest to find in good shape, even rarer, than the 1292 tubes.

It's your opinion which interests me
Yes, I have to heighten the projector... No other choice... But my first objectives are the quality of image and the possibility of installing the machine for a long time. The tubes of the G70 are the worst, you're right.
Thanks for taking the time

But be aware that a raised 1292 would be more like a bunker or pool table rather than a coffe table in front of your couch

It's one of my fears... I even wondered if I could really install a big CRT projector. But I want it

I also have a raised floor front projection setup, on the top of that the room is not a dedicated theater room, and it has a longish shape and I am forced to project across, so the least ideal setup to say that, but I'm lucky to have a NEC PG xtra, because it has one of the best size/performance ratio of all CRTs.

I see that I'm not the only one to have ''bad'' install conditions!
Here's a pic of my dedicated room.
I'm thinking about the way I can make an effective and practical hushbox, adapted to my constraints

Hi everyone,
After some e-mail discussions with the seller, I'll buy the Sony 1292. He wants to keep his G70 (because of its design and its size) and doesn't still know if he's going to sell his 1209s.
Does anyone know some examples of crt projectors owners who have built a husbox (coffee table design) for an heightened one?
Best regards.

I know the theory! My question was more "practical".
When I use my BG808, I have to heighten it at 17" from the ground. It will be the same with the 1292 but the Sony ; that means that the top of the projector will be at around 30-32" from the ground and even more the hushbox.
So I'm looking for some ideas of "attractive" solutions ...

Why can't you put it on the ceiling? I know you said you couldn't but your room does seem to allow it?

The ceiling (in drywall) is at 12 feet, suspended from 5 feet of the roof framing. The ceiling is tilted at the back of the room and the digital projector Panasonic fixed at this place, at 21 feet of the screen.
I can't tinker my ceiling to install the 1292.

While possible it sounds like a daunting task to install a 1292, i wouldn't dare to try it.
Although hiding the 1292 in the ceiling does sound nice

I'm an adventurer!
I'm dreaming of a good CRT projector for a long time.
I "just" have to find an attractive solution for a ground installation.

If you want CRT performance and pic quality (without the 13 fans of the 1292 creating a Hurricane in your home theater) get a JVC RS65.

Hi dragan,
Tanks for the compliment.
I know you're probably right but I want to test a good CRT projector and take some fun to settle it.
Furthermore, the RS65 is a bit expansive for me!
I'll try with the 1292. If the results aren't satisfactory, I'll install it in m'y bedroom.

Having used my Marquee 8500 since 2003, I would definitely recommend it as far as reliability. I have only had to perform one repair on the horizontal deflection module during all those years and having upgraded the neck boards and the video input module with Mike Parker modifications, I can say that the image has improved tremendously. Add a Moome HDMI card to the mix and you are all set. Having seen your room I would definitely recommend that you place a Marquee on the floor and lower your screen. It is a shame to miss out on the CRT experience, plus lowering your screen will be more comfortable from your seating position on your couch. C'est domage mon amie, le Marquee est simple a configurer et utilizer et si tu trouves un 8500 avec des bonnes tubes, ca va fonctioner pour 10 ans.

Hi napos,
Thanks for your message.
I'm disappointed for the Marquee but the 1292 is a very good machine.
I can't lower my screen. It's a painted screen and it's at the right position in relation to my seating position (eyes at the median of screen when seated).
I'm going to take my time to find a solution to install the projector in an adapted hushbox, in spite of its complicated position.
Félicitations pour la manière dont tu t'exprimes en anglais et en français!
Bye.

Merci TTHD. How wide is your screen? The 1292 is not as bright as other 9" CRTs, so I would avoid going over 2.4m wide (106" diagonal in 16:9).
