with 4:3 you'll notice that your friends keep saying " what'd he say" cuz the dialogue from your center channel on the floor is unintelligible. Wink

And you WILL notice the top & bottom. My room is totally light-controlled (in the basement), and all walls/ceiling/floor are dark purple or black. And I definitely notice the letterbox bars on my 16:9 screen. Just never got around to masking it.

In my not-so-humble opinion, there is almost no good reason to go 4:3 at this point. Unless the vast majority of material you plan to watch is old TV shows or classic games, a 4:3 screen carries with it almost no positive attributes, but as has been pointed out, plenty of negative attributes.

What do you plan to watch on your projector most of the time?

Well I watch a lot of anime which usually tends to be in 4:3 AR, so that was one of my reasons for wanting 4:3. Otherwise most of the media on the PS3 would tend to be 16:9 AR. Maybe I should just go with 16:9 though since a majority of media is at least 16:9 these days Razz

Currently my family has major concerns about moving this giant upstairs in terms of somebody getting crushed by it, haha! I know I can take off the lens for about 45lbs, but is there anything else I could take out to lessen the weight some more for the trek upstairs? Does removing the tubes entail draining the glycol as well?

Nope, just take the lenses and case off, and eat your Wheaties! Smile

Also, pull off just the lenses, and nothing behind that. And fer gawshsakes, post some pix of the tube faces. You're killing me here! Smile

Thanks AnalogRocks!
The tubes seem to have no phosphor wear that I can tell (perhaps a tiny bit on the green), though maybe it's just too uniform for me to tell. The last owner was using a 4:3 screen.

Good to know I spent my $123 well! Very Happy
Curt, I also snagged that HD Fury for $50 (realized after reading I only needed the ac adapter for hdmi longer than 16ft). Are there any features worth while in getting a moome card other than gamma control? If not, should I just get a Gamma X for the HD Fury?

Thanks!

Just start out with the HD Fury and Gamma X for now. You can always spend the money to move on to the Moome card if you want to reach for ultimate performance later.

From what I can tell, it looks like only a HDFury1.

I really would like to get the most out of my bluray movies though, so you make that 'ultimate performance' sound pretty appealing, haha!

Chances are you'll need the Fury power supply regardless. if you get no blue light on the Fury when you connect it, reduce the output resolution of the BR player to 108oi to see if that works. 1080p probably won't work, as the HDMI cable and source can't provide enough current to properly drive the Fury.

Ditto. Totally worth the $10 or whatever to just get a power supply and cable and eliminate the hassle.

G70s aren't that bad. I could probably have my 80 year old mom help me with one, if I needed it.

Hell yes, the G70s have great handles. Pop off the lenses and it's easy to haul around. Up/down stairs, no biggie.
