'On my Ac vs LC the LC was brighter but i had red and green Hd 144's. As for the sharpness the * inch did seam sharper. Why? I have no idea as the HD 10E's are the sharpest of all the HD 10's I have and I have a set of each, well did, I sold the GT 17's.

Im sure there is more than 1 reason, but what it is will just be speculations, so ill just stick to what i wrote before.. Sure color corection eat light, maybe the C elements in the LC to. color corected or not.. Maybe the glycol eat some light to, i cant say what do what and how much, maybe the HD10 is not passing as much light as the HD8.
The end result just seems to be that i need less contrast to get the same light, and less contrast on a standard marquee seems to be the same as sharper image.
( not saying i think the AC is sharper, but might explain why the thread starter remember his 8500AC looking sharper.)

Colour correction eats little to no light, its colour filtering that eats light.

Hi guys
Been away for a while but see that this has generated some interesting theories. I have not fiddled with scheimfplug but have gone through the astig getting round rings with dots centred and such.
I want my old 8500 back..... new issue developed since I last checked and asked about the sharpness. There are now horizontal lines on the image (all three tubes) like -_ -_
-- -__ if this makes sense. I think someone had this issue back in the days of AVS I just don't remember but guess its in the CLM or not, maybe just needs a good once over with some compressed air or something.
I'm getting dejected and cannot even sit down with a good (or any) movie these days what with all the winter storms preventing outside activity. Oh well ...

You need to send any suspect modules to someone to test in a working chassis. If your seeing this, it's a control module problem. Usually repairable by re-conditioning the board with fresh parts, or replacing the control module outright.
I know it's frustrating when the machine isn't working properly, but it's totally fixable. It's also really frustrating to spend the money go from an 8 inch to 9 inch and have the picture quality and performance go down, but your not the first person I talked to who wound up in this situation. 2 or 3 people I know personally went from a tightly dialed in 8500 to a flaky 9500 and reported both picture dimming and lose of focus, it really depends on the chassis and what condition the boards are in.
Can't help but wonder if this is really a low hour machine or a machine someone re-set the hour counter on after replacing the tubes?

Actually I think you are one hundred percent right on that one...I think they must have been reset because its highly unlikely such a modded machine would be sold after 500+ hrs. I will check the menus and see what lies beneath....

Should fix it.

Thanks Athanasios I actually used some Contact Ol (electrical contact cleaner last night. Just pulled the two boards off and noticed some oxidation on the pins. Have not powered back up yet because I want to make sure it is dry first. Going to try a bit later (fingers crossed) else I will need to get a new clm.
