It will because if that is the only way to obtain movies, then for one itll potentially cut piracy and itll cut the second hand market too. Not that there's much of that with movies, but a second hand market certainly does exsist.

It's almost impossible to stop the piracy industry and digital content has got to be way easier to distribute than anything else encryption can be broken and if the $$ are large enough a way will be found around anything content owners design. The same reasons that digital content works for the content owners also applies to the piracy industry and people may well object by not buying?

There is not much done for honest people most changes are to stop dishonest people and the honest ones pay for it with inconvenience or restrictive rules.

Eh.... I figure you're smart enough to fix such a simple Reel to Reel. It's all logic.
Now some of the tricks of the trade... we all have them... Thumbs Up

One of the .47 motor caps was smoldering, causing the takeup reel to work and not work. Once I replaced it, the takeup motor ran full speed all the time. What was a bit more tricky was finding the slightly leaky MOSFET... Smile

Just redid an Akai GX620 as well. One of the flattest frequency response curves ever, flat way past the 20Khz limit of my Nakamichi. Now I really need to dig out the GX635 I bought 2 years ago and give it a once-over.

For the US guys here, Best Buy has a few great older movies on BD for $5-6 w/free shipping if you spend over $25. I just ordered 8 new Blu-rays for $44.44 w/tax and free shipping.

Ferris Bueller
Risky Business
Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure
Pale Rider
THX 1138
Black Hills
Yosemite
Grand Canyon

There were a couple of more I was interested in, but decided to say under $50.

Here's the deal:

I was involved with the Video industry back in the early to mid 80s and I recall the owner of the video chain saying "why would anyone want to buy movies and own them." He was defending renting but as time passed it was clear that people did want to own their own movies.

That lesson is plain so what are these guys doing people will want their own BDs. How do you own a download or streamed content. I mean clearly you don't and content companies want people to pay over and over for the same thing over time but if people want to own rather than rent then how are downloads only ever going to work?

Back when VHS was ticking, yeah it was better to let the video store do them because VHS movies went bad over time and was not worth having with deteriorating properties. And they also took up a large space. This is all changed now.

What I dislike is buying a movie on a format that to me seems like a waste of time and money. To me what makes the value of a format is the type of movie that is priced for its type. A movie like "Pacific Rim" needs to be on blu-ray to take advantage of special effects, color, and sound where a movie like "Grumpy Old Men" I would buy on DVD and feel like I wasted dollars for nothing if bought on blu-ray.

In a lot of ways I tend to agree there. I have generally found Blurays to be of simular price to DVDs here, I would pay an extra couple dollars to have a bluray in most cases due to them being more convenient, I have to watch DVDs on my PC if I want to use the Barco, cause my bluray player wants to spit them out at 50Hz, which the Barco doesn't seem to be able to fill the screen with the stock timings. Its not an issue on the XG.

There are some movies I have on bluray that I also have on DVD, varying results, Dirty Dancing has the same image quality, but the bluray version has FAR better sound. I recently bought Lethal Weapon 4 pack on bluray to replace the 4 pack of DVDs I loaned out years ago and never got back, and I must say, I will be going back to the DVDs for these cause the extra scenes are not all there on the blurays and the audio is way out of alignment with the image.

I had considered buying all the James Bond movies on bluray, but I don't know if it will be worth the cost over the DVDs, I have them all on VHS and had ripped them onto the computer years ago, didn't matter on a digital projector, but look f***en sh** house on a decent CRT.

I have Star Wars on bluray and DVD ( and VHS!! ) and its obvious the blurays are considerably better in every way. The DVD set I have of the original old 3 movies have two discs, the remastered version, and the absolute untouched theatre version.

I have a lot of VHS tapes and a lot of those movies I have never seen on DVD or bluray. I still have a couple Japan made Panasonic VHS players here. I remember back in the 90s a couple magazines I read gave the NV HD620 top marks for image quality, and it sure was a step up from the RCA 6 head I had.
