I'm looking for 2 of the darker "correct" green C-elements for my G90s, how much is that going to set me back? Who has them?

Thanks!

No expert here, but Sony went with a lighter green C-element that favored light output over color accuracy. I'm not one that cares much about "absolute color accuracy", as long as black levels and contrast is good and there's little to no "crush" on either end. But with the stock light green C, greens will be too yellow, changing to the darker one should yield an image with "nicer" colors.

See

And

Craig of CIR Engineering would be the one to ask about that for a definitive answer.[/quote]

Based on the measurements I have taken of the Sony green celement is still not as good for Rec 601 as the darker green celement. The clear or light green Sony elements will be under saturated for Rec 601. The dark green celement is over saturated for Rec 601. However, the dark green is less over saturated than the light green is under saturated. Furthermore, slight over saturation is better looking than under saturation. And finally, if you use a VP with color management you can correct the over saturation, but you can never correct under saturation.

The darker or the lighter one?
Do they fit any 9" projector or just the Sony?
Also, how much?

I have lots of both light and dark green celements.

They will fit any 9" LC machine and also 8" Marquee LC machines.

The dark greens are $195 and the light greens are $25.

Hmm, 1/7 of what Curt charges, assuming same price for red and green. Big question is, do I shell out another 195 USD before the C-element swap in order to not have to live with the constant feeling that I could have had even darker greens and without having to tare it apart again?

It's not just about greens... any color that has any green in it is impacted. Basically the entire color gamut with the exception of pure blue and pure red (or any color on the exact coordinates between pure red and blue) will be under saturated without the correct green celement. So your entire color gamut is under saturated and shifted away from green without the correct green. It makes a big difference to the image and is not subtle.

Ill stick with the dark ones, i got in already.

I was just curious if it would fit better for Laserdisc source, but ill folow your advice and correct that in the Radiance.

How so? I charge $350 for a set of R and darker green mint C elements, less if they have some flaws, like a small scratch or silicone or chips out of the plastic in the back.

Darn!

Well, the one from Curt should arrive in a few days but I don't know there where two versions available so I don't know if the one I have bought is dark or not. Do you by any chance have like a Lee color filter swatch, or perhaps a RAL or NCS palette/swatch for comparison while keeping an absolute reference that we can relate to? Lee 139 should be ideal.

When you go out to buy a green celement everyone knows you are looking for the dark green one. You can ask Curt what he sent you, but I doubt you are getting a light green celement.

You can tell which one you have easily after it is installed simply by measuring it. If you get nearly perfect Rec709 green than you have the dark green element.

Good to know.

My available measuring methods is limited to color swatch and perhaps a monitor calibrator at work.

Anyhow, I'll stop hogging this thread now and drop you a PM instead.
