This is only good for up to 70MHz, the transistors in the the VPH06 probably already better than this.

Why? The problem is with the VPH06 that the transistors inside are too slow, right? By changing the output transistors to faster could only mean performance improvement. I don't see what to do with this NTE2501 in this application, this transistor is worse in every key parameters than the 2SC3600 that the OP had originally suggested.

It's very hard to open the vph's chip.

I had to heat the microchip to open it.

Now I would to know other components to do the mod.

The transistors you want to substitute are under the brown shield...

I'm very curious... has anyone other than zxh398 actually succeeded in this mod? The ICs seem to be quite easily available on ebay...

-These ICs are very fragile inside, easy to ruin while you want to disassemble, needs delicate skills.
-The suggested 2sa106/2sc3600 transistors are hard to find, while no one seems to have experience with the NTE replacement.

Hmm... the transistors both seem to be available for purchase on eBay, in the US anyway.

I would be interested in buying a spare neckboard to try this on, if only the instructions were a bit clearer about what exactly was going on, or included schematics of the actual mod.
