Would you have preferred if I had said that Sony puts a little Elf in each of their VW1000's, and that elf has a magic wand that converts native 1920X1080P into native 4096×2160?

How else do you think they can accomplish such a thing as "Reality Creation"?

I'd give a f*ck if there were 2 elfs as long as it looks great.
And are you really that stupid to think that bluray upscaled become native 4 K hahaha joker.

Rolling Eyes

I don't see anyone ever saying that it was. The person who came closest to saying that was you, saying that the Sony machines magically upscale without any artifacts.

Holy crap, how did I ever let myself get sucked into this? Shocked Too fun I suppose.

Well, we would, but since we're High End fanatics... once you mention signal tampering we go somewhere else. And that's why when it comes to Digital's the name that's mentioned around here is JVC.

You see they respect the signal and they do so by not manipulating it and passing it on as being something better after they send it through $50.00 worth of video processing. And then sell the product as being ahead of it's time.

And that's why their consumer projectors have a 1920X1080 panel in it, because their target customers are not the Boy's Scout's of America

What you are saying here is totally bull!

JVC has something the called E-Shift and they call it 4K, what this does is shift every pixel half a pixel to the side and half a pixel down and process it to look like 4K. What do you say about these algorythms??

You guys are so childish and say the VW1000 is not High End? Go and watch some VHS movies on your High End CRT´s! Thumbs Up

They don't hide that. that feature makes sense for anyone wanting to play around with their projector, but at the end of the day, it still has the native 1080P panel. And you'll be able to go pixel for pixel.

Yes they hide it and call it 4K! But that is ok with you but a real 4K machine is just crap and you would not even want to see it? And I think JVC is using 10$ processing chip. Wink

We are not saying there are no artifacts, but they are not visible when watching upscaled 1080p. I have never claimed the Sony can make native 4k out of 1080p, I am not that stupid. But you guys are stupid enough to think your wonderful stoneage CRT machines is the holy grail of projectors and nothing will ever be better!

Me I am a realist and I am looking forward to the day I find something better than the VW1000 and I will cherish is and not talk down to it because something better than my beloved VW1000 showes up. And if I have the budget to buy it I will buy it. If CRT was the holy grail of projectors like you guys think, I would have no problem admitting it and I would probarbly own one myself. Very Happy

And to call a JVC a High End projector is to me bull****, only 3chip DLP´s, some LED DLP´s and one Sony fits in that category!

Alright, here's what fascinates me.

Mike came in and made one of the most subjective posts I have seen in this thread. He simply said that your test with an 8 inch air-coupled CRT projector versus a 4k projector, with a 1080p source, was a poor comparison. And you know what? He was absolutely right, it was a poor comparison!

The CRT projector you saw was a mid-grade CRT at best. And your VW1000 is arguably one of the best digitals available anywhere. The 808 that you used cannot resolve 1080p properly. Period. A higher end 9 inch CRT arguably can. So, Mike is absolutely right, not just a "clown", to say that the 1080p source in the 808 could not be resolved.

Then, he tipped his hat to you, saying that it wasn't even fair to your VW1000, because it isn't using your projector to its full potential either, as the scaling will invariably (also a fact) introduce artifacts! Might these artifacts not be noticed by an average user in film content? Sure! Is the VW1000 a damn nice projector? Absolutely. Nobody said that it wasnt.

But comparing your projector to an 8 inch AC set, and then now saying that us users with our high-end CRTs and VHS tapes are stupid, is like us comparing the fully modified 9500LC that Mike has with a sh***y Epson digital projector that belongs in a board room somewhere, and then saying that all digitals are useless.

Nobody said that. In fact, those of us who can arguably afford it or don't wish to spend the extra effort on CRT projection have moved to digitals, and love them! I belong to neither of those camps, so still enjoy my CRT, but do appreciate the advantages that exist in digital projectors.

No, but apparently a language barrier has prevented you from seeing his joke.

He was mocking you, plain and simple.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

And since then he has been trashtalking the VW1000 in evey way and talking sh*t to me and diddern, I find him very serious. Diddern has also seen the Cine 9, 909 and the Marquee 9500 and is not impressed compared to the VW1000.

I say we quit this now and watch a movie on our projectors and have a nice evening with a picture we can enjoy if it is a CRT, DLP, LCD or LCOS I don´t care.

Amen!
