You guys are very late on the scene. This site is littered with extensive threads on digital v crt. No winner just preferences. |
Sure we are, but digital is changing to the better all the time, and many have the last few years changed preferences..
But there is also some huge progress in the Marquee camp, its now possible to get the bandwidth to fully resolve 1080P 72hz.
And higher...
So if you think you know how a CRT looks like.. Think again.. |
But the pure bandwidth isn't everything... the fact that CRT draws with a round dot instead of using square pixels will make it look "softer" than a digital (for those who are prefering the sharpness, and frankly these days this is what most people care about); and the other when the electron beam hits the phosphor it lights up the phosphor near to it, degrading the ANSI contrast, these are major drawbacks for CRT against digital, and cannot be eliminated without major redesigning -that surely won't happen... |
Does not matter what you do with a CRT against a god digital in 2013.
You can mod your ass of change tubes everyday. It won't matter, the technology have limitations.
Butt today still looks great on screen. CRT lost the fight a long time ago.
I think that it's hard to accept for some that still have the great mashines form the old days.
I was like many here on the forum many years ago. But had to bite the fact that things get better.
And what I loved was crushed by a digital jvc hd1 seen side by side with a 909 a long time ago.
And today that jvc hd 1 is faaaaaaaaaar behind what is today.

Be carefull.. Dont coment on stuff you never seen.. So far your never seen any CRT capable of resolving 1080P, with a low noise level. And no digital corection, motion enhancment mumbo jumbo in the signal path
For sure there is problems with digital to.. But if we speak in general, with standard machines, i think your right..
The best digital machines will be more correct.
And way more user frindly for those that have no skills and eyes to dertermin whats right or wrong.

I have a BENQ DLP a JVC X7 and 3 Marquee CRT in different trim.. Both digitals are in the box.. But i can also find a CRT where i will prefer the JVC even with its many shortcommings.

Bandwidth is for sure not everything, but if you had seen the difference, you will know that it for sure is a must have.
And the bandwidth have huge inpact on the ansi contrast.. And sharpness..
Thats where the mods are interesting, and why this thread is interesting, to see if the claims hold any facts, or just sales talk. |
About the new mods They used the hole day yesterday on green, so still far to see result. With the modded.
I will check personally what you ask for and you know that I will let you in on that.
Because they are real fanboys for CRT like others. And they see but won't see,,,,or need truth serum.
I take pictures and will see and tell the fact. Pictures do not show or prove much but just an indicator.

Do you have any news about the Barco mods you like to share with the rest of us.? Or just some usefull Barco facts..?
Maybe someone could start documenting the bandwidth of a standard Barco, screenshots, not BS specs.

You are right Be carefull.. Dont coment on stuff you never seen, true but the gap is so big. If you put 100 persons in a cinema and showed them your Marquee with more than you say here also or a 909 and a digital that I know Sony HW55 sheep and dam good. I will guaranty you that everyone will pick the Sony hw55. And then not for size and adjustments but pure pure picture quality on blueray. With much better Light output, Much better Ansi contrast, better motion in movie(I have tested this to....so do not think) ,better colors up to correct rec 709 HD TV standard, much cleaner picture more real feeling, much sharper picture, much better dynamics, better 3D feeling in 2D. (Also tested many times) Better Black level in movie also tested,,, the crt guys present did not say anything. . And then the negative for digital: Not shutting down to black like a CRT does. And manages to keep black just when some info in picture a plus/ Win crt .
OK then I will take huum??? Let me think.. Difficult...
This is the fact.... Test it yourselves against a new JVC, Sim or a Sony and maybe even a Epson today 2013/2014.
IT WONT BE A MATCH in any way today in total picture quality trust me. But still the CRT is great..and I still love it.
So we need to stop believing in miracles, and enjoy what we have.
I have a date with your Marquee hehe I will say hallo in Denmark when you have adjusted and done everything possible to your machine and cinema. Then we see what you say on forums later. Can also take pictures if you like. I just need to know what screen and gain your using so I can calibrate the projector that I take with me. Just for fun.

We have a date.. but stop comenting on my marquee and what others will prefer.. It will not be anything like any other Marquee you have ever seen. Its a hole different machine with about 2-3 times the bandwidth of a 909, and it can be calibrated spot on REC 709 with around 12fl on a 110" scrren, but ill prefer around 10fl
see the fun would be a moddet 909 VS my moddet Marquee 9500LC with HD10E lenses.
and there is more to a image than sharpness, some will be able to see the benefits of the CRT analog gamma response, against a digital generated gamma response.
So we will end with preferences.. there is no black and white.. no winner on all parameters.
But please kick that 808 AC machine out of the comparison no matter how much money spend on it.

I know.. I dont claim that my marquee is better than your SONY 1000, even that ill belive so..
It will not make any sense to comment on something i never experienced.
So sometimes its better just to stay with facts, and what you can prove.

A lot of text here hehe.
One thing that is guarantyed fact is that a Sony 4k mashine is in another leage than a CRT 100% fact, but I have heard this many many times and
With same result even with a sheep sony or jvc. But if your marquee is 4 times better a 909 reality I have to see it.
And I doubt that it's mufti better if better at all. But I haven't done test yet.
But as I told you before test coming soon the 909 need a new card.
Side by side setup will show who is the best. All my friends with Barco say Barco 909 and you and others with marquee says marquee. Hehe same old same old hehe we wait and see. I will test this just for fun.
And own intrest.

I'm interested too what modifications you will do to the 909, and what sort of improvements it will give.
My dream comparison would be: modded 909 vs modded marquee vs vw1100
And then see what differences there are and preferences.
Until the time comes for 4k available I will still enjoy my seos 919, but thats because I always dreamed about having one and now I have.

Example and very close to the truth. When you talk about comparing a crt to the vw1100 or the vw1000.
Like comparing a Barco 600 to a cine9. And of Corse a Barco 600 will win???
And to think that a CRT can manage a god digital today is and will be just a joke.
There is enormous differences, and not comparable in picture quality 1080P. If someone cant see this I feel sorry for them. Like said many times before its time drop this, its really a joke. And everybody with some sort of experience with picture know that what I say is correct.
CRT was the best for a long time and still gives a great picture if you have a 9 inc. But everything is better on a digital except some factors saied 100 times. And again for around 3K today you get something much better in total picture. Stop assuming, and wondering, This IS THE FACT.
Everything else is bull**** and just that you cant let go the CRT technology and see how great it is now in 2013.
For me do not care if I have a Sony or a JVC or a Sim or a Barco or Marquee. I want the best picture possible for my home Cinema. And it is by far a CRT, ,,,right now November 2013 its a VW1000 for Blu-ray 1080P.
I cant understand how this can be so hard to accept? All protect what you have for shore, but REALLY? Let fact be fact.
And dreams be dreams.
Happy Weekend

The digital VS CRT will never finish, its all about preferences, and in many cases, as seen here also missing skils from the one setting up the CRT. |
There is absolutley nothing new in anything any of you have said. Its all been said before now. Oh I think I have said this before. |
Do you have any news about the Barco mods you like to share with the rest of us.? Or just some usefull Barco facts..?
Maybe someone could start documenting the bandwidth of a standard Barco, screenshots, not BS specs. |
No-one really seems to listen when their emtions take over. The Barco mods the differences between CRT and where CRT development is have all been discussed at length many times over with the end result being it is simply viewer preferences as to which one is better for them.
There is nothing new in this discussion

I agree, nothing new in this discussion, we know the fact and hard to swallow. Enjoy what you have:)
But don't say that its better in any way, IT IS NOT.

Fact remains youre comparing 15 year old technology to new release.

Aint that a fact. Its supprising how well CRT prjectors perform when you consider that there has really been no development for at least 10 years (perhaps Marquee might be an exception) and these projectors are performing well beyond anything they might have orginally been used for.
