[quote="nidi"]You should see a Pioneer HLD-X0 with a CII !!! picture is orgasmic!
Crystalio 2 still beats the Radiance when it comes to deinterlacing SD
and the Comb filter can't be beat!
Michael
Who would not want a HLD X0
Dont know how it compares to the MSB i have, i just know the MSB is much much better than anything else i have.. CLD 925/ CLD 2950. They suck big time.
Also the msb spindle motor is mounted directly on the chassis, i think the HLD X0 is the same.
The HLD X9 is using more or less the same clamping and motor construction as the cheper machines.
So the MSB is dead quiet machine, not shaking and noisy like most other machines.
Michael are you using the Crystalio as comb filter, deinterlacer and scaler, or as i do only as comb filter and deinterlacer.?
We need to make a laserdisc screenshot shootout..

every Universal player is crap. you have to make compromises, and that's never a good thing in electronics.
I sold the X9 after a week, not worth the money back them and now.
And I've proven that the comb filter is better in the X0. The X0 has a minimally processed composite output
and connected to a CII , well , orgasmic!
unfortunatly, the C2 isn't the best built quality scaler (power supply, internal connections) so mine has been
away for a few months for repairs. It's also quite flimsy with the vaules it supposed to save and retrieve.
use the C2 for 480i composite input , comb filtering , deinterlacing to 480P and send the signal to the Radiance
XS+ for upconversion to 960p/72 or 1080P/72.
you won't see a better SD picture from LaserDisc.
BTW, I still have 3 X0's !

back then , 2005 , I personnaly visited Pixel Magic in Hong Kong for an EDID update.
they had a C3 prototype developed but it never made it to market.
the scaler business dropped due to the high sales of flat panel TV's and they didn't see a market
for the C3.
It would have been great having an improvment on the C2, not that it needed it for picture quality.
I always said that a scaler must be developed bysomeone who has/had both PAL and NTSC in the country.
That's why all scalers coming from Europe (Faroudja grew up in France) and Pixel Magic (Hong Kong , PAL
terrestrial and satellite, NTSC on VHS, LD and DVD) are so much better on 625/50 than the US counterparts.
It took Lumagen ages to do so-so to good PAL deinterlacing, which for Europe/Asia was a snap .
just have a look at those Iscan scalers, they are a joke, when it comes to PAL deinterlacing

So looks like we more or less uses the Crystalio and Radiance in the same configuration.
I have a 1440x 716 120hz profile out of my XS+, it match the cropped input x2 on the radiance when using the letterbox, or 30% zoom on 4:3.
Or i just run 1080P 60 hz. I dont like 72 hz convertion of 60 hz source. so i keep it 60 120 or 180hz
It would be fun to see a X0 once, so far i never wanted to spend the massive amount of money they cost, for a machine i need to flip discs, and cant get any parts for.
The MSB LS2 is made from a Panasonic LX-H680U platform.
I would love to see a LD player where the composit signal dont have any processing or converting at all.
Do you have any screen shots from your setup you can share.. would love to see..
I know its hard to capture laserdisc like it needs to be done while playing.
