Well, I was all ready to set up my minty 1271 this Saturday, when I saw an interesting ad on Criagslist... a Runco DTV-1100, for FREE!
Went down right after work and snapped it up, had wayy too small of a car, but when there's a will, there's a way! Made for an interesting picture anyway!
I haven't fired it up myself yet, will do that tomorrow, but I'm told that it works, though it has some 4:3 wear on the green, which is in an unfortunately smallish area... I'll try to live with it, and maybe level it out later if I get the ambition, and re-tube it if cheap tubes show up.
This is my first Barco, and really the first CRT that I'll actually get around to setting up, so I just had a few questions:
-I probably won't be using the "Eye Q" (Barco Iris) camera, does it make sense to remove it and its controller to save the power supply a bit, or doesn't it really matter?
-Will pulling the Port 3 board make an appreciable difference in power supply longevity? I probably won't use it either.
-Anybody have any DTV-1100 hinges for the top cover laying around? I would assume that the 1209s hinges are also the same, just a different color. Both of mine are broken.
So... do I suck?

Good score.
Did you have the lenses covered while the projector was in the sun pointing up? Check your celements and make sure you didn't melt them with sunlight coming through the lenses.

Hmm... That's not something I would have ever thought of.
There were no caps, so the lenses were not covered. Sun was at a pretty low angle by then though, and I only spent any appreciable time parked with the lenses pointed north, so hopefully all is well.
Looked through the lenses as best as I could, and everything looks clear, so I think I'm fine, but tomorrow will tell when I pull the lenses off.
If I had melted them, wouldn't I have glycol all over?

Nope, the lenses are quite thick, and it just burns small pits and bubbles in the surface of the lens.
Hopefully, if you weren't parked for any length of time, and if the sun was low enough that it never went directly into the lens (or if it was, you were moving), you'll be OK.
A DTV-1100 is a great machine... Free is unbelievable. Total score!

Haha I've got two more, too! In retrospect, one of the Daytonas would have probably been better at holding it, but it would have been a lot harder to get in and out!

The camera wont save you a damn thing on power, so i wouldnt bother removing it!!
Im not sure how the IRIS goes on a 1209, but on my Cine 9 it sure does save alot of time, if you have the camera set up properly it will get it very close to perfect. I set the geometry up on the green first and get it perfect, then run the IRIS, then after that i will pull up a test pattern from my PC and evaluate whether to use coarse or fine to get it perfect ( or as close to as you can get with a Barco )
I use port 3 for the MOOME V3 box, i tried both it and 4/5, both identical on my Cine 9, so it may be worth a shot to try it so youve got 2 inputs there. Run a HDMI up to the converter then RGB to port 3, then RGB-HV to port 4/5 for a PC. ( or the other way round if youd rather! )

Cool. A mobile HT! Gives a new meaning to 'drive-in movies'. All you need now is a big sheet, or a blank wall on a building.
(Oh, but that keystoning will be a killer.  Drop it down by driving the front of the car up a small ramp.)

Thanks for the info, but I have a bad back. And for that reason, house rules are such that if I can't lift it, I can't own it (for projectors). Limiting me to a digital (blech!) that's around 30 lbs or less.
That being said, I do have a line on a Sony VPL-VW40 for a reasonable price. Just need to get funds scraped up for it & then go collect it from Jeremy in WI.
But, you STILL SUCK!!

Well, thankfully I don't have any melted c-elements! I've got her all set up on the floor for now, though I'm sure I'll be tweaking things for a loooonng time!
I've got an issue with 1080p though, starting a new thread with that!
