I have both 6 pole versions and I am interested in the difference in design. The Marquee setup has the magnets sitting away from the tube. In other words there is an air gap whereas the Barco magnets sit right on the tube as do the Ampro one I have.

Is there a difference in performance by having the air gap?

Marquee made 8500 Ultra's with 6 pole magnets, these Ultra's used 180DMB22's which are nearly the same as 180DVB22's from Barco. I can only conclude that the small difference between barco and marquee CPC magnets does not matter.

I have a set from one of these ultra's in my barco 808, works fine!

Of course they can be installed and tested. I have the Barco set in there at present but I don't really want to upset that to change if there is no reason. The Marquee design is just different as it actually places the magnets further away from the tube. It seemed they must have found some benfit.

The simulator version. The 1292 had the 09MFX3. I have both types of tubes. This set is unused.

A good question. Not too much published that I can find. From the outside both look the same. Image quality seems the same. They do have a different part number which could mean nothing.

Id have to assume it has to do with phosphor colours and decay rates, at a guess.

They throw a mighty nice picture which is what I want.

Greg Eisemann make a fuss about simulator grade tubes.

What projector do you have them mounted in is it a G90,1292, or Barco? If you could post some pictures I would like to see how they went in and any screen shots. Also the 09MEX2's are air cooled did you mount them on the LC tanks? I have a few more brand new sets if you need them.

Its a Barco graphics 808s. They are not mounted in but rather all around it. There are some images in the below thread.

In terms of the CPC magnets. I have some interesting information.

On each Barco I have seen using Sony tubes the red tube always has a skewed convergence pattern unlike the blue and green that almost line up the red is one way at the top of the image and the other way at the bottom and at times flicked up in one of the top corners all this requires alot from the convergence circuit to bring it all into line. Adjusting the CPC magnets does help but doesn't go anywhere near fixing the issue. I put the 6 pole Marquee magnets set to null on the red tube and the pattern straighten up like the blue and green does requiring minimal convergence adjustment. Smile

What do you mean by 0? All the magnets on the same position + knobs at the same position?

I seem to have a slight skew on my red tube aswell but i had this with both the original barco 4P and now the marquee 6P rings.

Edit: i should read better, i'm using MEC/Panasonic tubes.

If you take a close look at the CPC magnets in particular the rings you will notice that there is a tab on each ring. Zero influence is achieved when those overlap. I set them in that position as you would for any new setup and at some stage I will make fine adjustments but even without any adjustment the red looks very good and the pattern is square no skew or flicked up corners.
