I did a few more tests tonight...I think a Blu-ray looks better at 480p, but mkv's seem to benefit from 720p (and these are 720p mkv's). Maybe the full bitrate 480p is the sweet spot. I don't notice more detail at 720p...just a bit more noise, and seemingly less contrast. These aren't huge differences, just slight.

I'll give 480p and 576p another go tonight and see what i get... what bluray / scene are you using... i found the extra detail in avatar at 720 over 1080i ie first flight i'm getting more detail in the leaves of the trees and stuff... also have this older hd scape disk i use that shows off a coral reef this scene is 1080i @ 30 and im outputing to the cine7 @ 720p/60 and getting more detail in the fish.... easpecially ones in the background..... its the background stuff for me thats looking better....

There is always someone with a bigger screen around on this forum.
Mine is made of counter top laminate and is 2.5m wide. I win until the next guy with a 708/Cine7 and a bigger screen posts. |
You win, but im much brighter at 2.27m wide, although i bet mine is taller than yours
I ran the XG at 1280x768p @75Hz for a while on 3D, but ended up changing to 1366x768p @72 Hz instead.
For standard 2D content, it was all done at 1920x1080i @60Hz, which most certainly looked nicer than using 1366x768p @72Hz.
On the 9PG, i used 1920x1080i @60Hz for bluray and all movies from a PC, but DVDs from the bluray player looked better at 576p @50Hz, the odd US region DVD i have looked very coarse in 480p @60Hz, so i ran those in 1080i @60Hz ( DVDs in a 576p 50Hz format would display at 50Hz in 1080i and i couldnt change that. )
On the Cine 9 i run everything at 1920x1080p @60Hz, and its quite fine.

I'm not observing in terms of scrutinizing the screen for detail...I'm just observing an overall better picture.

I have an embarrassing confession to make. I can't convert from inches to meters properly. 2.08m is my screen width.

You know, in a way I'm glad my Cine7 takes about 15-20mins for its convergence to settle down. Since I can't tweak anything until it warms up sufficiently, that gross error distracts my mind early enough from other anomalies that by the time I could do something about it, I don't care anymore because the mis-convergence is gone and I've moved on to enjoying the flick instead of the picture I'm looking at.

Cant wait... PS I think im coming up to Gold Coast over the Chrissy break and need to pop in to see a bloke at Wynum to pick up a 708s i bought months ago Once i got dates we'll tee it up. . .
I mucked around playing my blurays @ 480i/p and 576p then watched a movie at 1080i and found myself switching back to 720P so far 720P is giving me the best picture... and i really think im going to stop there with it... i kinda over it as the gains are minimal either way.... so back to movies for me for a couple more weeks till my marquee parts get here then it all starts again!!!! lol

Isn't a Cine 7 with fresh tubes supposed really sharp? EM level sharp? (untill 2000-3000 hours).
On my 808 1080i is definitely nicer than 720P! 480/576P isn't even close and i get massive scanlines.

Thats no worries mate ill still be brighter with the extra length for greater smoothness ( sounds like something i read on the side of the Rothmans cigarette packet!! )

I'm the next guy with a 2,6m screen and a Graphics 801s.
I drive it over PC (Powerstrip ATI GPU) @ 1080i 40,3Hz.
My scanlines are visible on each CRT and on the screen.
Regards, Julian
