Back on topic:

I tetsed this projector yesterday an it behaves as described in the first post. But the LED don't light simultaneously, horizontal def LED is first followed by vertical def LED and the the unit shuts Down.

I remember having that before and it was easy to track. UNfortunately I don't remember what it was, probably a shortet 15 V to ground that happened in course of the air fan replacements. As Thomas PG tripped in normal service, the short could be much harder to locate.

Say again what happens if the HOT is blown (two years ago since it last happened to me)? I did not yet measure the resistance of the HOT but that would be easy to replace.

A shorted HOT usually causes an "FC" error, and only the H-deflection LED is on, right from the power on command. As for the measurement of the HOT, don't be affraid if you measure only a few Ohms between the base and the emitter, that's normal. Between the collector and emitter you should measure a diode in one direction and open in the other.

Measure the 3 pin power connector at the middle top of the board. One pin should have 50-100 volts on it which feeds the HOT. if you don't have that, then either the HOT is shorted, or the power supply is bad.

No, it is the 2SC5570 or 2SC5047, need to look it up when I'm back home. However, this typ has been runningfine in the 10PGplus with maxed width for two years no.

Yeah, like
bleed the tubes if no air bubble
use the original case for controlled air flow
replace all capacitors
the power supply has died
u can't silent a XG
[edit] don't eat the yellow snow [/edit]
.
.
.

Don't get me wrong, without the advice of all the amateurs and very few pros on the web I couldn't have kept of with this or other passions (I daily drive a 30 yr old Porsche) - couldn't be gratefull enough for that, special thanks to Curt for hosting. But all that advice is based on limited information available and sometimes you even do things although you know better.

In this case, id say it was more than amateur advice Wink It may run for a while, maybe even years!!

Replace all the capacitors is some pretty damn good advice for these, they are known for having defective ones, and unless you have tested them all to confirm otherwise, I doubt youll be the first that never has to do it Laughing

Check this, there is more to find about the specs on German boards. But I also know the bad experience of Mark_A_W, who helped me big time elsewhere.

Okay, the German wisecrack learned better..

So actually the 2SC5047 did last for 2 - 3 minutes (PG9+ Def boars running n my 10PG+). Then the projector shut down with the same symtoms as decribed in post 1 by Thomas. So I unsoldered an original Toshiba 4288a from another working spare Def board and put it on Thomas board. This time the HOT didn't even last for 2 minutes. But, me sh*thead had forgotten to put in the screw to attach the transistor to the heatsink Embarassed

Two new 2SC4288a are underway, due to arrive Thursday or so. Then we will see if the prob was really the HOT or is sitting elsewhere on the board.
