Curt you going through PA at all, if so try to hit Frank Lloyd Wrights Falling water in Bear Run PA. I have been there in October and it was absolutely stunning. And a few minutes from Falling Water is another Frank Lloyd Wright home called Kentuck Knob, it has only one right angle in the entire house because the plumber refused to bend pipe more that 45 degree's . He has lots or Art on the grounds including a portion of the Berlin Wall, Which I pissed on while there giving it the finger Wink lol

Jealous! Haven't been, but would love to.

I think you might have that backwards, Nashou... The Kentuck house is based on a hex grid, so not unlike some other FLW designs... The lone right angle is in a bathroom or something, so it was the plumber that dictated the right angle, not the other away around. At least that's how I remember it.

OK, question! I will be in Asheville NC on Saturday noon. I need to be in Washington DC on Sunday night. Should I do a straight shoot via Mapquest between the two places, or should I add a couple of hours for a more scenic route? if so, which route? I want fall colors! Smile

I will be leaving about 2 in the afternoon from Asheville, and via direct route it's about an 8 hour drive, so I can easily add up to 4 hours of driving between Sat and Sunday.

One of the east-coasters should chime in on this with the details, but since nobody has... Yes, definitely add some scenic route. That's a really, really beautiful part of the country - especially this time of year!

Definitely plan on driving some of the Blue Ridge Parkway. From Asheville, head up to Roanoke, VA... From there, you can drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, for a few hours, or more. Mountains and trees as far as you can see, and twisty, twisty, road. Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park is also awesome. You could drive both, and it would be a gorgeous drive, but it would probably more than double your travel time - like from 4 hours direct on the interstate to 8 hours on the back roads. But, it would be awesome.

There's also lots of cool driving in southeast Virginia like Colonial Williamsburg and the Colonial Parkway, but I don't think you'll have any reason to be over that way.

Oh... When you leave D.C., you could drive the National Scenic Byway on your way back west.

TONS of really cool American history in those parts. I'm jealous!!!

OK, cool, I'm in Asheville right now, just walked in the door. Will map out where I'm going tonight. so thanks for the heads up.

Spent the morning until about 1 in the afternoon in Savannah, started taking pix at 9 and didn't stop until I got in the car to leave. Super pretty. Also did an oil change, I think that's the fastest 5K miles I've put on the car, I changed the oil the day before I left. Smile

Love the people and the places I've seen so far. A bit disappointing how the highways are laid out here, big trees on either side, so you see nothing, but at least you can speed! Saw two significant accidents, and man, the amount of road kill 'round these parts.. possums, skunks, raccoons..Sad

OK, so it looks like Roanoke is right in line where I'm going anyway between Ashevillle and Washington DC, so that works out perfectly. I then go to Pottstown PA and Cincinnati on the way to Chicago to Cliffs.

Curt don't you know that the east coast is road kill mania I agree on the trees last time I was up in Michigan it was flat as far as you can see(something I ain't used to)yet the roads were in worser shape then the ones here in Tennessee(to a point)

Wait are you already catching on to the southern way of talking that is fast Smile (I wish I had a working neck board as I have one marquee in parts waiting for the neck board)

You know, a couple of times it I almost broke into a southern accent.. then I realized I'd sound ridiculous, but when you're surrounded by it for the better part of a week, your brain wants to kick into it as well.

Had the sister of an ex g/f move to England for 10 years, and she came back and the odd word she said was totally with a British accent. She was born and raised in Vancouver..

Sweet, I can work with that!.

So I'm about an hour out of DC right now, in Butteff Virginia. Can I say something? I HATE Virgiinia! Razz

Stopped in Harrisonburg as it was getting dark, and it was raining. Due to some college football game going on, there was no room at any inn, anywhere. My laptop is acting up, Cliff, I'll get you to look at it pls when I get there. And I think I left my reading glasses back in SC.

So car Virginia is not looking good!

Did the drive of the byway for a couple of hours in NC.. beautiful! I'm a couple of weeks early for all the fall colors though, most are still green and yellow, but I got the idea, and got some good shots as well.

Oh, and I bought not one but two Runco 1200s... Very Happy

Oh but at the one road stop today, I did indeed meet a genuine Georgia Peach. Driving a BW Golf, maybe early 30s, redhead, smoking hot. Best thing I've seen on the trip so far. Very Happy

So I get to DC, check into the most EXPENSIVE Motel 6 I've ever been at ($105 a night!!)// so I'd hate to see what a GOOD place charges!

Booted up the netbook and all is fine with it now... must have been that Virginia power or something, and made contact with Mike Parker whom I shall meet around 5:30.

So far so good. Despite everything being shut down, I can already tell that this city is amazing. Sadly I will have little spare time in daylight, too many projectors to buy over the next 3 days, but I will come back here 'fo sho' as Cliff likes to say.

BTW Cliff, the problem with the netbook was that the mousepad wouldn't respond. Zero response to my finger, but it worked fine using my fingernail. Rebooted it 3 times last night, same issue. Shut it down this morning, rebooted as per normal right now, and it's back to normal. It's a Dell Inspiron Mini using Windows 7 starter.

I don't care, as long as I don't lose all the pix of the trip on the hard drive.
