Was surfing around for info on my old Sony XBR set when i was surprised to come across a post on VideoKarma mentioning a 2010 "recall of sorts" notice from Sony Corp for older CRT based TVs. Sadly my XBR was included in the recall:

http://www.sony.jp/products/overseas/contents/support/information/notice_100610_en.html

Did a search for mention on the forum and couldn't see any so thought I'd post it anyways.

If anyone has seen or knows about this (Mac maybe ?) do you know what component is at risk of causing a fire ?

Cheers.
Dave

Interesting. I thought it quite humorous that sony just outright said "Stop using your TV". I mean I don't expect them to repair it or anything obviously, since the sets are at least 23 years old now, but again just thought it was quite humorous!

My old XBR TV wasn't on that recall list, but then again it was made in 1991 Razz She died a slow and painful death too, literally about 30,000 hours on the set. It was never turned off practically. It got a LOT of use!!

What I find even more interesting, is that somehow, sony identified these specific TVs after 20 years. I have to give them credit for noticing the problem that far down the road!
