I'd have to say they are mac, I'm getting better at reading schematics, that alone helps a lot. As for the firmware, I haven't gotten to it yet Embarassed but I will Wink

I have an issue with a VSX-51 Elite, Same board model. I don't have the schematics for it so this is a bit tougher, Can someone tell me the value of R493 and the PN for R690 (emitter Resistor) I have a bad Surround Back Right channel, a hand full of transistors and resistors are burned out, but the R493 also burned up in the middle of the board, which is a bit odd. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

BTW, nice find on that leaky predriver transistor, That corresponding component is bad on my unit too.

EDIT: Was able to find a Service manual, the failed components seem to be very typical of a blown Channel. The one odd resistor and transistor failure I had was a -BHigh line monitor. So that makes sense too I'm going to replace the predrivers, outputs and biasing resistors in that Ch (SBR)

The problem is I hate buying form Pioneers parts dept, the costs are so high, and I'll have to order from multiple other places to get the mix of components I'll need.

I would try digikey or mouser, or partstore (partstore is bestbuys parts website, best buy sells that model, and they may also sell the parts to repair it since it is a common issue on these models).

As an interesting side note, these receivers are not made by pioneer. I am pretty sure these days anything that bears the beginning model number of "VSX" is made by a 3rd party company. Pioneer only makes receivers in the "SC" line-up. I know this because there are a few other brands (Denon, Marantz, etc...) that are literally identical on the insides of these units.

Hope you get the receiver going, whether or not pioneer makes it, its still a good sounding receiver with some decent features! Smile

Ever ordered stuff from there? Super expensive and then a shipping and handling charge on top of it. I wanted one resistor at it was going to come out to $20

I went with digikey and then subbed one of the transistors, the 1024 I think, at an 11xx series.

In all I should have about $20 in repair parts into this and that should do it. Outputs, predrivers, resistors in the SBR CH and one small resistor transistor combo that controls the protect line.

I would have rather just snagged a trashed unit form ebay and pulled the parts needed for repair, that way in case I didn't see something before I could pull more parts without having to pay for more shipping etc.

I order almost all my stuff on ebay. you just need to scroll down the seller's f/b rating for counterfeit parts complaints, ultra common in China.

Thanks for the heads up on Partstore, they are now memorized as someone who I'll NEVER order from.
