well that's good, I ran it for about a half hour before I started confusing you with my above posts Razz so it should be pretty good, the meter was rock solid stable on 2.0mv on all channels, so I will reconnect that resistor, and check the voltages again (I made a test point jig to make it easy Wink )

So far so good mac, its all back together (minus the dented up cover I have to straighten out as good as I can), voltages are stable as they can get, still on 2.0mv on all channels.

Thanks again for your help mac, I really appreciate it. At least now I know what to look for if I have a similar issue with another receiver.

Would you be willing to attempt the tone control issue I'm having with the AVR 3808CI?

Hey, I'm not going to work any harder (or more dangerously) than is required Razz Wink

Give me as specific details as you can and I'll see what I can come up with.

Alright here we go, I'll make a new thread for it tomorrow, but here's the gist of the issue, I actually have 2 denons with this issue so if we fix the 3808 we might fi the 2809 I have here as well...

If the receiver is powered up after a fresh factory reset, and I go ahead and do my adjusting etc... everything works fine, as far as analog audio inputs the speaker outputs, all that.

Now I noticed this when I turned the tone defeat off so I could adjust the bass and treble, as soon as I turned the defeat off, the sound cut out, doesn't matter what input, just no sound. If I turn the defeat back on its fine.

If I switch from stereo or direct to a surround mode, sound cuts out completely. If I use a digital input there is no sound, analog sound works fine...

If you can get this one, then I think the rest will be a piece of cake Wink

Mac, I just thought you'd like to know, the pioneer ran for 6 hours straight after we finished last night, I used it up til I went to bed, and it had no issues at all. It did get a bit warmer by the time I turned it off, but for how long it was running it doesn't surprise me, and it feels about as warm as a known working pioneer I have here so it should be fine.

the ONE last thing I noticed on this receiver, is when I turn it on or off, you can hear the relay click through the speakers for the amp, sounds more like a pop in the speakers than a click... What would that be?

In order to isolate you would first have to determine if it was coming through all channels or just 1 or 2.

I forgot to mention that in the previous post, sorry... also it is still working fine, not overheating or anything, so whatever it is it shouldn't be TOOOO serious I would think.

yep, The FR, C, SR, SL, SBR, SBL didn't do the popping. I wouldn't have brought it up but it made me jump when I powered the receiver down since I wasn't expecting it.

Mac, I noticed that if a speaker is connected to the front left, and it only does this on the front left, that the DC drops from 2.0mv to -3.8mv. If I disconnect the speaker, the voltage goes right back up to 2mv, the rest of the channels when a speaker is connected go up to +2.8 so only .8 from the adjustment setting.

I checked with a different speaker just to make sure it wasn't the reason for doing that and it's not. Maybe this will help out

Yeah, more then likely it's a failed component right in that FL amp circuit. You will probably have to value test the resistors and check for leakage on any diodes and transistors. Do you have the schematics for it?

I do have the schematics and service manual, same one you have I believe, the VSX-1021-K? I'll pull the amp and do some checking, I figured an adjustment would be too easy Razz

Look on page 53, in the red box. Those should be the problem parts, just a different hundred number for that channel.

Gotcha, will check them out and get back to you with what I find mac. It may be a few hours though, I'm in the middle of something else at the moment. Thanks again man!

Well mac I thought you'd like to know that I did manage to find the bad component on the front left channel. Its location # Q443, it read fine testing it one direction, testing in the other direction I found it was leaking voltage on the center pin. KSA992 is the component itself.

I robbed a good one from a parts unit here and first thing I noticed once I got it back together to do adjustments, there was no relay pop in the speakers, and the voltage didn't drop negative, its right in line with the other channels when there's a load.

After the break in period , I took the load off and input no signal, and the offset is at a perfect 2.0mv. Heatsinks have been nice and cool all afternoon.

Thank you again for the help mac Smile One more saved from the graveyard! I can focus on the AVR-3808CI now without having to worry about this one.

So are they getting easier to fix? Cool

How you doing with that firmware?
