I run crt's with lower contrast than most...I lower it until blooming is gone.
What if I did that diy kit with 110 volt AC? Could that possibly mimick the crt reactivate function of the sencore? The manual states that reactivate only uses 1ma of current, but I am unsure of the voltage...but it runs for 30 seconds. Whereas that video above, I'm sure the current is likely higher. Or would just the voltage be higher, but the current lower?
BTW, I enrolled in electronics out of high school...but dropped out! |
If you have a watchable picture at 1/2 contrast the last thing I would be thinking is the CRT. Unless it was bleeding a color substancially
As far as your other questions, I have no idea. Rejuvenating/reactivating is a very delicate process in which having the proper equipment is almost a must. Anything else and your playing with luck.
Most of the CRT's that I have rejuvenated in past years, the picture was barely seeable at full contrast. After the proper process with a Sencore 7000 the picture returned to normal.

It's a CRT 'kabooster' as we used to call them. It bumps up the filament voltage from 6 to about 7.5 volts to superheat the CRT to give it another year or so of life. haven't seen one of those things in 30 yearfs.

Curt is correct as usual! In between grade 11 and 12 I worked as a summer helper for Jack's TV in Tsawwassen....Curt might know of the Learmont family who ran this place - it was big on Sony & Panasonic. Anyways, I would grab faded sets traded in/tossed outside the store and use this on them. Sometimes it only worked for a few days then one or more of the filaments would blow out completely ! This is back in the days of "all wood" TV set enclosures lol. Its been so long I can't recall where I got it ! Might be a museum piece one day...maybe already is !
