But its always better to be safe than sorry.. I found out the hard way.. |
Ive been over to the hospital on the heart monitor a fair few times due to electric shocks while at work. Its something that comes with the job as an electrician where you may be required to work on installations that may have been done by non qualified persons, which is highly illegal here due to the fact they really have no business in there in the first place. Australia's electrical standards are some of the highest in the world. |
I have seen a idiot first hand poke his hand around live 120 before(not something I would do) |
He has no common sense then and will probably wind up paying for it somehow. There is no room for macho behaviour in the electrical trade.

Try disconnecting everything from the power supply then plugging it in, if there is a short somewhere it probably wont allow anything to operate at all.
If it does start the fans with nothing else connected, try connecting one or two plugs at a time and turning it on, if it doesnt start then disconnect the item that stopped it, then try everything else, what ever stops it is where your fault will be, assuming it will operate that way.

yup its good. for a buck, how could u have gone wrong. if the tubes are clean they are worth something even if u end up crapping the set.

Panasonic tubes are great I now I have a projection tv that has p16 Panasonic tubes in it(nice and sharp) they would be worth something (providing they are in good shape)if the set is a write off

Case if I am not mistaken if a marquee set detects a short it cycles on and off(been reading a lot on curts site)

Hi,
It usually will switch off and stay off. The shorted rail will be indicated via the corresponding LED on the front of the LVPS. In addition -if the supply for the control board is still working- it will have one or more error LEDs lit on the control board's panel.
Case's approach (unfortunately) isn't possible as the LVPS only has two connectors: Mains input and one large connector for the outputs. So, it's all connected or none.
If the LVPS won't start up at all I would recommend the following:
- Plug everything together
- Connect the mains plug
- Check if You can hear a relay clicking (if not, go to the last item in the list)
- Check if the amber StandBy LED on the control board's panel is lit (if not, You know...)
- Press "POWER" on the wireless remote and hold down the button for some seconds
- If this doesn't work, try with the wired remote
- Check if there's a blinking red LED on the control board's panel during pressing the remote control keys
- If not, You might try with a spare control board -or-
- Get a known working LVPS and start from there
Bottom line: Repairing a LVPS is a tricky task. Lots of components (basically it's multiple switch mode supplies in one box), lots of monitoring and safety circuits and no documentation. I would only try it if I had an elaborate test bench and at least a second unit for measurements and comparison. After all, it doesn't seem to be possible or even being safe trying to operate it when it's disconnected from the set. Please remember that one of its output voltages is 390V DC (for the HVPS)!

Or a service manual
No doubt the 390v dc output would be risky to be around if not careful

True but a nec 10pg still beats it in contrast ratio

Hi,
There is none. At least it's not publicly available. The LVPS and HVPS came from third party suppliers and weren't developed by Ehome/Christie/VDC. They only were built according to their specs. Therefore You would be needing the test rig, the second unit for reference and an extensive knowledge about switch-mode supplies.
Sorry for not having better news for You...

My Ecp is the same way(having to replace the high voltage power supply soon due to a leak in the power supply)
I noticed there was no service manual on curts site either so if he don't have one then they didn't want many people to work on them(which is a dumb move on they're part)
