Now i have been using my 8500 AC Ultra for some time, running 1080P 72hz

Its 13,2fl super bright, and with nice grayscale, and a 2,27 gamma.

I love this machine, specialy thinking about the Price, and the tube masking is going to stay forever..

I got a defect convergence board from Curt, i did the repair, and addet the ultra mod to it, and put a FGM into it, so its now a real Ultra machine.

Ill try see if i can make some screen shots that do this projector Justice, its quite impressive with the high light output, and nice ansi contrast.

Yeah im still with the HD8.. I think i can crank more light out of this 8500 than any of my 9500LC.. Its fun, but sure there is trade ins.

I actualy think i would recomend a 8500 Ultra for anyone wanting something that beat most digital projectors light output.

Im not 100% sure but i think i balanced the colors at 100% at 18fl.. and still quite Sharp. And mine just have 1 magnet ring to adjust the dots..

I use it in the room thats seen in the Picture, even when still light in the eavening.. Cant wait to see this one in a totaly dark/ Black room.

Probably the LC chamber eats somewhat the brightness away compared to AC, on the NEC XG LC projectors the tubes are pushed harder than on the XG AC models.
Can you do 1080i-96Hz (or 120Hz) resolution? That may look even better on that machine.

Just put a 1080I signal, and i get scanlines, dont like that. And i have no problems with 1080P 72hz pixel clock is around 190Mhz

I have decent 1:1 pixel resolution, no difference to see on the test pattern from 60 to 72 Hz

Just cant make the focus to do the 1:1 in the corners, and dont care much like it dont bother me.

Ill save the energy to get my 9500LC Ultra with new green and HD10E lenses and all the latest MP mods douing that.

I just measured ANSI contrast on my 9500LC ULTRA with HD10E lenses, its 37:1 same as the 8500 AC ULTRA with 16:9 masking on the tubes and HD8 lenses.

Same setup.

Yeah mate, serious as a heart attack. Ive got lots of meters, just none that can do this task!! Unless you know of an iphone app?

I use the eyeometer, when the grey scale looks grey from one end to the other, the colour balance is close enough Wink

Its possible to make a ok grayscale with the eyometer, but the blue focus and the gamma ??

And seems like a Waste to have a good projector if its calibration is not as perfect as possible.

At least i could not live with a setup like that.

There handful of gamma test patterns as well, where on/off pixels are compared to a given gray level. For example the nVidia drivers have a built in monitor calibrator app. (only under winXP though, but I still use XP for movies)

See now this is where youre missing out with your sub-standard equipment and im sure Gabor will agree, cause with NEC projectors, they have a little switch on the PGs and a setting in the menu on XGs for blue defocus, you just turn it off, get the blue razor sharp, then flick it back on again. Then its perfect. Laughing Laughing

Im happy you have eyes, a skilset and a projector where no Measurement is needet to get perfect performance. Thumbs Up

I cant clame having any of that, so ill need to belive that your Picture is far superior and your some steps in front of me.

ill do my best to try and keep up. Embarassed

Mate if you think its bad the way we do grey scale, you wanna see the way Aussie_Al does convergence!!! As long as the tubes are pointing at the same wall that's good enough for him!!! Convergence is one thing I just cant stand to have not perfect.

Here, what I found for you... I don't want to be dogmatic but this is also from a NEC brocure Very Happy (you can find it in the CRT primer here). Not sure what they are refering with the JIS and HDTV method, but the HDTV method specs are similar to your measurements (10PG is an LC machine, 6/9PGs are AC)
