Wow, Barco really went to town on those die cast moulds.
At least that stuff is easy to cut.

Hey! - you didn't read my whole PM - I told you they were hollow. And very thin. Really, I don't see you cutting anything because nothing can be cut without weakening the structure. Maybe it can be drilled. Also, you can see the cylinder - I probably should have called it a ring - I was talking about in Spotmatic's third photo. That "bar" across the opening that's the same color as the lens mount is the tube itself and not part of the crt/lens mount assembly.

Hey Greg! To be clear...I don't yet have the lens adapters but I do have the HD144's from Hammerhead. $200 bucks and they look brand new! I was very reluctant but I finally came around and decided the HD144 option was probably better than the colored glycol (and better than the Rosco's I have now). Steve's gonna help (he doesn't know it yet!) take down the 808 to move it. PLUS, I got a GREAT deal on the adapters which I'm sourcing locally! 8) 8) I'll send you a PM.

HOW? Well I had to eBay:
A DVD player
Four Air purifiers
My Civil War VHS collection
My Bruce Springsteen CD collection
And nine blank VHS tapes

First problem is to get HD144 mounted nearer to tube face than what HD8 is. Second problem is that original hardware need to be cut least from those HD144 bracket area.
Something like this would work for both D808/801s and G808/801s.

Wow, nice picture and well thought out. This could work, but not sure about the sturdiness. I suppose the distances are not measured?

Hi There,
That just looks like two machined 6mm (1/4") plates with 4 packer blocks (probably 2 or 3 off cuts from the machined plate) - Thats reasonably easy to make....not quite as simple as the marquee single plate, but probably a damn sight easier than Bjorns big blocks, or even Galens custom fit heat shrunk rings (which are simplistic but a bugger for tollerance).
Cya,
Lee

| Spotmatic wrote: | | This could work, but not sure about the sturdiness. I suppose the distances are not measured? | Sturdiness shouldn't be problem, plates can be watercutted from 5mm or 6 mm aluminium, still there could be eight of those machined filler pads.
I draw it from memory during coffee break, so I have to recheck few dimensions from HD144 drawing and my HD8 notes in home. But I'm quite sure dimensions are correct. Only dimension that I'm not sure is needed distance from HD144 back plate to tube face...
Bjorns 7 mm drop would be near. That is easy to chance, because filler pads could be attached by bolt/thread...

So this would sit on the existing mount, thus retainining scheimflug, correct?

| dc_pilgrim wrote: | | So this would sit on the existing mount, thus retainining scheimflug, correct? | Yes, Sheimpflug can still be adjusted using washers in Data and using original stepless adjustment in Graphics. Don't have Graphics here, but according to pictures I have seen there should be room to make those small holes to original mounting plates. (that I draw to digishot)
After mod it's still possible to use HD8 lenses and nothing doesn't need to be send to modification. So only negative thing is need to remove mounting plates and cut those holes to plates...
So who want to make pilot project?
I don't have any interest to this, because I don't have HD144 lenses and I'm moving shortly to 9" LC projector...

Hi There
<i>So only negative thing is need to remove mounting plates and cut those holes to plates... </>
Hadn't noticed the notches to be cut into the existing plates...I take it this is for something on the lenses, can the lenses not be modified as removing those plates will be....er....fun, from what i recall looking at an BG801s i have on the floor with the leses off last night and my BG808s on the ceiling.
8 x 6mm = 48mm Thats a big pile of machined bits... They could indeed be bolted, or screwed, or even i my case if aluminium glued (its what we do at work).
I'm interested, machining at work would be reasonably easy, i just need to get hold of a set of 145/144's and check PJ distances....
cya,
Lee

I have a Barco 808 mounting plate here and from what I can tell this design will be very hard to implement . The rear of these plates are not smooth but are cast to hold the springs required for swings and tilt . They sit where the cutouts would be required...

That would be me.
this is the reason i started this thread.
This design looks good. One drawback i see will be cost. there will be two plates cut plus the spacer blocks. that will double the cost of teh marquee solution at least. More hardware as well....
it is a viable solution though.

Joust If you would like I can send you an extra assembly I have for a Sony tube in a Barco 808s . The rear plate has a broken bolt hole but should make no difference for your purpose . You can have it for the price of shipping . Send a PM if interested .

Thanks Tom, but Moose already sent one. its in transit now.
I have several ideas bouncing around in my head but will have a better idea once the assembly is in my hands. If a picture is worth a 1000 words. a 3d object is worth 100 times that

I believe the front casting is the same for either the Sony or MEC tube it's the rear casting that changes but please correct me if I'm wrong . Wishing you luck with this !
